Very proud of my mum, who has won re-election for the second time as an independent councillor in North Tyneside. No party machine, just really hard work on behalf of her residents year-round - as seen in the fact that her vote and % share went up despite more parties standing.

🇬🇧 Energy bills did not used to be cripplingly high. Houses did not used to be this expensive. Childcare used to be more financially manageable. So when did life in Britain become so unaffordable? @Tim_Wallace explains here ⬇️ telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

Why is the electorate so boiling with rage at the political class? This line from @szupingc and @Tim_Wallace's piece on the new economic forecasts feels like a key reason. "By the end of this decade, workers’ real-terms hourly pay – adjusted for inflation – will still be 0.5% below its 2009-10 level. That’s more than two lost decades of growth."

I’d prescribe a strong scotch after reading this. I’d not heard before the idea that we are not so much an emerging economy as a submerging one..
There is a rather wretched feeling about the UK economy. Good to chat with @szupingc and @Tim_Wallace. But you may need a strong coffee before reading the piece. We desperately need a plan...please. @CamEcon @MMF_research @econromesh @AntonMuscatelli telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

Cut CPRE off from the water mains.
A bid to derail Thames Water’s planned Abingdon Reservoir has been rejected by the High Court. CPRE Oxfordshire and campaign group Safer Waters had argued that Secretary of State for the Environment, Steve Reed, acted unlawfully in not calling a public inquiry.

The govt actually have commissioned and funded six new prisons, but guess what? Planning appeals and badgers have prevented us actually building them. We have legalised crime to avoid upsetting NIMBYs.

What a treat for them! Basically a free trip to Santa's Grotto. x.com/DominicWaghorn/status/…

Hamas leader Yehya Sinwar met with the Israeli hostages a day after they were taken in tunnels under Gaza and told them they would not be harmed and would be returned as part of a hostage deal. Undermines the Israeli Hamas = ISIS storyline.

I asked on Tuesday: if police fear protesters will turn violent if the law is upheld, why defer to that violent threat? Now, shockingly, @metpoliceuk officers silence @antisemitism campaigners’ legitimate speech for fear of violent attack. What behaviour gets privileged here?
“I’ve just had one of the most disturbing experiences in nine years at Campaign Against Antisemitism.” Who are the police protecting here? Those standing up to terrorists, or those who sympathise with them? We are considering our legal options and a public protest.
