ALT Quote from Nuthall’s book:
Frequently, because teachers rarely explain the learning purposes of activities, the students are most concerned about getting finished, no matter how. The key criterion is to take about as long, or slightly less, time than everyone else. Completing an activity too quickly might attract the teacher’s attention. So constant comparison with other students’ progress becomes important.

Is there anyone out there in #edutwitter or #twittereps who has read Nuthall’s Hidden Lives of Learners and can help me understand a confusion I have? I can’t equate his “need to encounter information at least 3 times” with his A A A A formula (i.e., 4 times). Thanks.
What a wonderful gift from my student trainees. Freudian slippers. Now I can really put my foot in it (not my original joke, but too good not to repeat!).

Great thread about SDT. It also provoked thought about the importance of *perceived* competence; IMO, a good coach helps the coachee design measures to notice the impact of their improving competence. Which is of course hard in a wicked learning environment like the classroom.
I'm going to be wading into the psychology around teacher development a lot over the next year so please follow, share and comment. I'd be interested in your thoughts. This is also a first blog on this here: adam-robbins.com/2024/07/07/… 12/12
This. We have to fight the zeitgeist that says that all politicians are bad, that nobody can be trusted. By vacating trust and trustworthiness, we create a vacuum into which populism and extremism rush gleefully.

Yesterday I rode @letapedutour as hard as I could. It nearly broke me but I made it. In 2 weeks time, the pros will ride it 2x as fast as I did, after having ridden similar stages for 19 days already. They have my utmost respect. Proper athletes.

Today's #tourdefrance2024 results reminds me that I can be proud to be British. Let's hope that tomorrow's #GeneralElections2024 results also allows me the same sense of pride.
