This was not merely a traffic incident. The Taliban have created a system where violence against women is normalized and enabled. Women & girls are being harassed, abused, and murdered with impunity. Taliban belong before a court of law, not in positions of power.

The ongoing targeting of women by the Taliban in various cities of Afghanistan proves that the group considers itself above the law.
Taliban have been emboldened by the international community’s lack of response to its ongoing severe oppression of women and now believes it can do whatever it wants to them without fear of consequences, from arresting, raping, torturing, and killing them in prisons, to running them over in the streets.

#Afghanistan: We condemn the excessive use of force in Herat and arbitrary arrests of women for “violating dress code instructions”. The de facto authorities must respect international human rights obligations, including right to peaceful protest. The EU stands with Afghan women.

در سه سال گذشته، تیم کمپین «به آپارتاید جنسیتی پایان دهید» و شرکای ما بهطور خستگیناپذیر با کشورهای مختلف برای گنجانیدنِ «آپارتاید جنسیتی» در معاهدهٔ «جرایم علیه بشریت» دادخواهی کردهاند.
امروز، هفت کشور، بهشمول افغانستان، استرالیا، ایسلند، مکزیک، اسپانیا، تیمور شرقی و اروگوئه، بهطور رسمی از دبیرکل سازمان ملل متحد خواستهاند که «آپارتاید جنسیتی» در معاهدهٔ «جرایم علیه بشریت» گنجانیده شود. این بدان معناست که «آپارتاید جنسیتی» رسماً وارد دستور کار مذاکرات مربوط به این معاهده شده است.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, reacting to the Taliban’s approval and endorsement of the “Regulation on the Separation of Spouses,” in which child marriage is implicitly recognized and a girl’s silence is considered consent to marriage, has called on the group to immediately repeal all measures that violate children’s rights and to explicitly and unequivocally prohibit child marriage.

دختران افغان در نامههایی به آنتونیو گوترش، دبیرکل سازمان ملل متحد، از او خواستند تا در مذاکرات این سازمان با طالبان حق آموزش دختران افغان را در اولویت قرار دهد.
