Facebook remind me that I celebrated #IndependenceDay 2010 in Afghanistan. @SenJohnMcCain used to celebrate the holiday on the road, too, with troops. He and Sens. Graham and Lieberman joined my media team and me for a press conference to discuss the trip.

Recent waves here are WILD! Each time back home in SoCal, one of my first stops is The Wedge at Newport/Balboa. I used to body surf there in the 80s. The waves are unforgettable and brutal, and getting slammed on the sand is unavoidable.

THREAD --> Singularly exceptional moment! I visited @Rep_Walkinshaw & was shocked it was the same office I left 22 yrs ago working for former HASC Chairman Duncan Hunter. Staffer sitting in my spot let me sit at her desk - where on 9/11 I watched the second plane hit the towers.

...I showed them the photo of me there on my last day in 2004. The staffer went into a storage closet and brought out a plaque with the names of all the Members who had that office, including my old boss.

...It also showed that the noted former Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson also used the office, which I didn't know.
Just another amazing experience in this town. So glad I could share the memory with them, and I really appreciated them humoring this old dude.
