Just a couple local guys trying to give Edmonton’s historic Transit Hotel a new life and serve some great BBQ while we’re at it! Voted best BBQ in #yeg 2025!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us since then, and if you haven’t yet what better time than today to support local, see all of the work we did to restore this historic building, and try what Edmontonians voted to be the best BBQ in #yeg all in one visit!?
117 years ago today, on September 11, 1908 the Transit Hotel opened its doors for the first time in the heart of what was then the Village of North Edmonton.
We were proud to give one of the oldest buildings in #yeg a new life 4 years ago after it had been closed since 2017.
Transit Smokehouse & BBQ, known for its brisket and located in the iconic Transit Hotel, has permanently closed its doors.

This includes with endless permit delays, years of adjacent construction with no support, an inactive/ineffective Business Association, all coupled with one of the most struggling industries in the country right now. - 4/x
We genuinely hope this building and other historic sites survive, but it will only happen with community, and leadership support.
Thank you North Edmonton! - 5/5

Had one last lunch at the Transit Smokehouse & BBQ @TransitEdmonton at the historic Transit Hotel before they close their doors for good at the end of the day today. If you would like to check it out there is still some time today.
Stay tuned for the opening of their new location on Whyte Ave in the coming days! #midnightrooster#yeg#yeghistory

"If you build it, they will come" may have worked for the Field of Dreams — but not for the Edmonton restaurant that hoped to revitalize the Transit Hotel.
