Bus lanes improved reliability by 12% on average and by 19% on the 116 Morningside, according to new data released today by @TO_Transport.
Time to roll out the red carpet for more buses across Toronto! #TTC
The RapidTO Eglinton East bus lanes are making a difference for commuters.
Our data shows:
➡️In the morning, travel time decreased by up to 6 mins
➡️In the afternoon, travel time decreased by up to 5 mins.
➡️Reliability of all four routes increased by 12% on average
Important to look behind the headlines. The RapidTO bus lanes reduced trip times because stops were removed without consultations. Bus stops in #ScarbTO are often far apart so if you have mobility issues the time saved on the bus is wiped out by the time getting to the bus stop.
Great news from the first assessment of RapidTO bus lanes! They are reducing trip times and improving transit reliability in Scarborough!

Built at a cost 700 times less per kilometre than some subway projects, I argue in @SCMirror that much more focus is needed on building a network of #RapidTO dedicated TTC bus lanes quickly, esp. in #ScarbTOthestar.com/local-toronto-sc…
Another time-honoured tradition for Scarborough: politicians promising better transit for Scarborough. Did @fordnation or @JohnTory mention the closure of the SRT in 2023 or that it will take 10 years for the SSE to be built?
"For too long commuters in Scarborough have been waiting for better transit," Premier Doug Ford says.
The government is announcing the 8KM, 3-stop subway extension will be done by Strabag.

During news conference Premier Ford blamed Toronto City Council for long delay in getting Scarborough a subway, as a reporter who has covered more stories than I can count on this, remember it was Rob & Doug Ford who reversed plan for LRT - which would have been completed by now
The new @ScarbSubwayEXT will be an annoyance for residents going to @ShopSTC who will have to get off their bus at McCowan/Sheppard Stn, and go downstairs, wait for a train, and take the train one stop to Scarb Centre Stn. It creates an additional transfer (1/3)
Currently the 129, 130, 131, 169, 939 go directly to @ShopSTC Scarb. Centre Station, but when the subway opens, these buses won't go directly to STC anymore. This additional transfer will add time to the already long commute vs. staying on a bus directly to STC. (2/3)
Also, @Metrolinx plans to build the new Scarb Centre Stn at Bushby/Progress is another inconvenience as the current station is situated directly beside the mall, civic centre and govt' buildings. Moving the station will mean ppl need to walk further to get to these places. (3/3)
"Scarborough residents live past McCowan as well. We really need investment in other lines like the Eglinton East LRT and Sheppard East LRT that would be built faster, cheaper and serve more people. We're just getting 3 stops, that's not going to help a lot of residents." #TTC
After years of debate and political turmoil, the official ground-breaking happened Wednesday morning for the Scarborough Subway Extension. @MelNakhavoly speaks to those who are excited and those who say more is needed. bddy.me/3h3muO2
Advocates call on #TTC to pause Wheel-Trans changes, saying thousands could lose access | "Changes mean people with disabilities, seniors may just stay home."

Friends, Indigenous, Muslim, Black, Palestinian, Queer...it's okay to not be productive, whole or 100%.
You wouldn't expect yourself to be productive after being hit by a semi truck...this is an emotional and spiritual semi.
Give yourself kindness and permission to recover.
Ford refused to recall the legislature to legislate life saving policies like #paidsickdays during the deadly second wave of the pandemic, but he’s going to recall it now to invoke the notwithstanding clause so he can rig next year’s election… 👀 #onpoli#onlab
A mechanic for a public transit operator is in the ICU.
Why can't the #TTC set up pop-up vaccine clinics at work locations?
Transit workers will be eligible to book vaccine appointments tomorrow, but clinics at work would mean better, faster access.
Ride share driver
Meat packer
Mechanic for public transit operator
All three were recently admitted to my ICU after acquiring #COVID on the job.
None had convenient access to vaccination.
Bring vaccines to workplaces.
Fully vaccinate those with high exposure risk on schedule.
Horrible news that a bus driver was assaulted after she asked four riders to wear masks. Bus drivers can't be the ones to enforce masks - it's lead to an increase in assaults in other cities. #TTC needs to hire staff to distribute more masks and ask people to wear them.
ATU Local 113 President Carlos Santos released the following statement in response to another assault against a TTC worker.

Last night was not a good night. For the first time, I was mentally/emotionally drained because of this #COVID19#pandemic and to hear about a female operator being assaulted for asking someone to #WearAMask
This is my community, my neighbours, my friends. This is not okay. We all got notice of this yesterday, this is not dignified to make people line up in the rain in the wee hours of the morning #Scarborough#ScarbTO#TOpoli#onhealth
People have been waiting since midnight at Scarborough's M1P vaccine pop-up. (We got here 5:30 am) Line loops 4x around football field and still growing.
Everyone's chill and orderly but I know we're not seeing such lineups in Forest Hill, Bridle Path, etc #vaccineinequity
You want vaccine hesitancy, tell people they have to line up in the rain and dark for TEN HOURS for a chance at a vaccine.
Then have "progressive" city councilors self-congratulate for pairing with a volunteer organization to tell all the Black and Brown people where to line up.
