When we heard the word 'recovery' we can often as #trauma survivors feel pressured: into the impossible, and into putting up and shutting up, just to keep other people happy. But that's really not what I mean.

ALT “Recovery doesn’t mean living a lie and pretending that the trauma didn’t happen. Recovery just means that trauma doesn’t dominate our life any more.”
Mental health things you don’t actually have to do:
Explain your mental health care choices to people who aren’t your doctor or therapist.
Pretend that every day is supposed to be a good day, even if you’re in a “better” season of life than you were.
Hide your story or feel shame for the heaviest things you’ve gone through.
Prove your pain or your healing.
ALT We were never "too sensitive." We were intuitive. We saw the abuse we endured for the cruelty and manipulation that it was. - Sherrie Campbell, But it's Your Family. @traumadissociation
Fantastic resource on "Autism in girls" written by the Autistic girls network. A must read for any practitioner or educator. If only the world understood and recognised autism in girls. autisticgirlsnetwork.org/kee…
ALT "Grooming makes connections in our head that good stuff is always followed by bad stuff. So if we accept anything good in life, we end up believing that we invited and caused and deserved the abuse."
Perfectionism is so often a defensive response to the anticipation of criticism from others. But none of us can be perfect. How about we surround ourselves with kinder people instead? Listen to my podcast on Spotify or direct: carolynspring.com/podcasts/k…#trauma#TherapistsConnect
ALT “We cannot outrun the unkindness of others by trying instead to be perfect – that is a strategy that will chase us all the way to our graves.”
"#Derealization is common among these trauma- and dissociation-related diagnoses, but it’s not just associated with trauma. For example, derealization can be a sign of depression and any kind of anxiety, especially panic attacks." ow.ly/eFvj30oGbwd

ALT DID involves dissociative part-dependent resting-state differences. Compared to ANP, EP activated brain structures involved in self-referencing and sensorimotor actions more. Actors had different perfusion patterns compared to genuine ANP and EP. Comparisons of neural activity for individuals with DID and non-DID simulating controls suggest that the resting-state features of ANP and EP in DID are not due to imagination. The findings are consistent with TSDP and inconsistent with the idea that DID is caused by suggestion, fantasy proneness, and role-playing. Schlumpf, Reminders et al 2014
