my friend can attest to this. he used to pick up book collections for a popular non-profit reseller in Chicago -- said almost without fail the stuff he got from judges & lawyers was James Patterson/John Grisham tier crap they would ultimately need to recycle
I know PE guys and high end corporate lawyers who are verbally fluent and clearly smarter than me but have zero intellectual interest in anything beyond self aggrandizement and money.

Something I very much admired about Steve Albini was his insistence on capturing bands as they sounded and doing as little as possible to interfere with that organic quality. Martin Hannett looked Joy Division in the face and yelled FUCK OFF and it produced two 10/10s so idk.

here's a title for rw film twitter craving Taxi Driver with a black pimp. actually, pretty much every modern critique people have of that film is answered here. I recommend going in blind, the less you know the better
I love Taxi Driver and at first I thought it didn’t matter, especially because Keitel is great and made a great character. But I’ve come to think the film might have been even more powerful if they had stuck with Schrader’s original script

very demanding and controversial movie. if you can find interviews with the female cast they speak glowingly of Eustache. he poured everything into it and they stood by him the entire way

Jean Eustache wrote the script for "La maman et la putain" (1973) with Jean-Pierre Léaud, Bernadette Lafont & Françoise Lebrun in mind. Even if one of the actors had refused, he wouldn't have made the movie.
The dialogue was set in stone and Eustache was against any sort of improvisation. Léaud struggled with the challenge of memorizing such a lengthy script, but because of Eustache's insistence, he spent 3 months memorising the script prior to the start of filming.
