Saw something today I’ve never seen before: curious altruistic behavior. The black cherries are fruiting up the valley (North Georgia) and I happened to be up there tearing out some vines. A small group of noisy crows were up there making a racket. One crow methodically chewed off a small branch laden with black cherries and then flew it down to the ground, holding it in its beak while several other crows picked berries off it. I watched in amazement and the the crow that did all the work didn’t get a single berry. The same crow did this at least a dozen times. Explain this behavior to me. AI-generated image.
