A huge week for AZ Golf🌵⛳ The @goodgood_golf Desert Knockout was broadcast this week live at @grassclippingsc and brought in thousands of fans. Thank you to everyone who came out for this event!

As for the golf course, it has seen a complete transformation. Pristine greens, fresh mowers from @TheToroCompany and, bright lights. It will be exciting to see how the golf course and Scotty’s team evolve overtime. #staygrassy

On October 1, Scotty and his team began their second overseed of the course, but for the first time with the @Musco lights installed.  They might be the only crew in America able to seed at night.  What took 8 days last year only took 4.

What has transpired is nothing short of inspiring. Scotty took over a neglected golf course and needed to build a team. Over the past year, it has been remarkable to witness a group of greenskeepers from all walks of life come together as one, all for a common goal.

At the heart of our story is Scotty Hebert.  To us, running TPC Scottsdale was the pinnacle of his career, but we asked him anyway: Would he leave all that behind to spearhead the next evolution of golf?  To our surprise, he didn’t even hesitate.

What began as a clothing company quickly grew into much more. After launching our first batch of clothes, we hosted a tournament, pursued a local golf course, and ultimately created Arizona's first lighted golf course and the first-ever lighted par 3 golf league (@grassleague).

The Story of Grass Clippings: When we created Grass Clippings in 2018, our goal was to shine a light on greenskeepers and their selfless dedication to the game of golf. Fast forward almost six years, and our original goal has come to fruition in more ways than one. 🧵

There's a ton of history at Grass Clippings Rolling Hills. It was originally called Papa-go Links when it opened in 1960 in large part to it's proximity to the Papago Buttes (seen below in the distance)... It was renamed in 1963 to Rolling Hills Golf Course in an effort to avoid conflict with the newly built Papago Course down the street.

Lighted Par 3 Golf Courses are the future. Of the 16,000 golf courses in the United States, 700 are par 3s - representing 4.4% of total golf courses. Search terms for 'Par 3 Near Me' have exploded since 2019 - up 64% in interest. That is double the growth rate of the search term 'Golf Course Near Me'. Under 1% of golf courses in the United States are lighted. • Lighted golf courses - 60 • Total golf courses - 16,000 Compare this to South Korea. • Lighted golf courses - 117 • Total golf courses - 514 Over 20% of golf courses in South Korea are lighted. I wanted to learn more about the potential in the market - so I chatted with the team at @GrassClippingsc. They just built out a lighted golf course on an old muni golf course in Tempe, Arizona. They installed 78 lights that cost $2.2 million. And made several other improvements. One thing that fascinated me was how large the tee sheet is. • First tee time - 7:30 AM • Last tee time - 9:50 PM They are able to increase their potential green fee revenue by 50% over a traditional golf course. Grass Clippings looks incredibly fascinating and, more importantly - fun. Par 3 Golf Courses or Lighted Par 3 Golf Courses haven't been commercialized - and I think there is a great opportunity to do so. It is the bridge between Topgolf and traditional golf.
