The hardest part of any journey is the beginning

I have spent decades on screen playing difficult roles, including ritual people and dangerous men, and some people cannot separate character from actor. They see me on the road and start calling me names from films, as if I carry those things in real life. I laugh, but I also worry, because it shows how strongly stories can shape the mind of a viewer. That is why I insist that while we tell dark stories, we must show clearly what happens at the end. The criminal should not end as a hero. The man who makes money by wickedness should face judgment in the story. Film is powerful enough to set ideas in society.
