Because they’re a solid, well-organized team and executed a low block to near perfection today. They forced Spain into difficult shots all match and defended well on set pieces.
I don't know anything about soccer, so forgive me for my ignorance, but how is it humanly possible for Cape Verde to assemble a team that can prevent Spain from scoring a goal?

1) That’s one of the greatest results in World Cup history. 2) This.
Those of us who watched 2023 AFCON know what this Cabo Verde team can do

ESPN FC is on location for the World Cup. Former USMNT players are doing SportsCenter hits daily. ESPN flew in international employees to help cover the tournament. This was Page 1 of ESPN dot com during the USMNT match. They are restricted from showing most match footage.
This is a big problem in 🇺🇸. ESPN doesn’t want to help FOX so they will not cover the World Cup at all. Such a shame and missed opportunity on growing the game even more.

You would think a sports editor would understand that ESPN is subject to very strict rights restrictions when it comes to footage of the World Cup.
Just watched @SportsCenter Top 10, not one World Cup highlight, two pro softball’s, a minor league baseball game, even dog frisbee. What are we doing @jschirmer_est79

They fixed the Gampel Wi-Fi two years ago. Hartford is a different story.
Renovations are cool and all… but will they come with better WiFi? My personal hotspot was on the ropes by March.

All the evidence out of New York City so far in 2026 is making an incredible case in favor of democratic socialism.

The last time Gillette Stadium heard noise like this was May 21, 2023, when I watched Taylor Swift stand up from her broken piano, tune her guitar in 0.5 seconds and play the toughest rendition of “Red” you can imagine like it was the easiest thing anyone could do.
Scottish fans absolutely belted their national anthem.

Last night’s USMNT match has a chance to be a watershed moment. If we kick on and win the group playing that way and go on a little run, boom. If they flounder, it’s another “maybe next time.” But USSF, MLS, USL, NWSL, Comcast, Apple, etc. would also need to not fumble the bag.
Donovan said last night he’s waited his whole life to see USA soccer have a moment like that. Seems like us soccer may finally be turning a corner

They keep complaining about the heat, but then they turn around and say, “Let’s play at noon at the Meadowlands in mid-June.”
I mean, they could have easily done a midday kick off on the east coast each day so Europeans & Africans got one decent kick off time a day. They start baseball, football, basketball & hockey at midday all season long…

All these people wearing Indiana Fever shirts driving away from Mohegan Sun in cars with Connecticut plates, I hope you have to call roadside assistance.

I’m bad with faces sometimes but I’m pretty sure Maria Conlon is today’s UConn legend spotted in the crowd at the Sun game.

Outstanding work by the Connecticut Sun PA for sneaking in the Caitlin Clark intro while no one could hear because all the bandwagon Fever fans were still cheering for Kelsey Mitchell. Glossed right over her. No one noticed. OUTSTANDING work 🤣

When the Sun came out on the floor, one of these fucking bandwagon Fever fans said, “May as well just call them the Houston Comets.” I don’t usually advocate violence, but I never discourage it, either.

Hi, @ConnecticutSun, if @GameDayConor can’t be here, can you please at least make sure you get a substitute in-arena host who doesn’t call us the “Suns”? Thank you. Love you.

I need to circle back to this goal really quick. A UConn legend subbed on for some guy who played at St. John’s and immediately scores what might be his country’s most famous (men’s soccer) goal. @HurleyMania and I were walking on clouds hours before the USMNT kicked off.
🇨🇦 1-1 🇧🇦 ONE OF THE BIGGEST GOALS IN CANADA HISTORY. CYLE LARIN.
