Emeritus Professor Chris James passed away on 17th Jan 2025 and the world of governance, especially governance research, lost a great champion. Our paths crossed many times and we had some lovely discussions. Chris was not only extremely knowledgable, he was a very charming and kind man. I first met him at an @NGAMedia conference. During one of our meetings, he encouraged me to join @BelmasOffice I’m so glad I did because the conversations we had at the Governance RIG were very enlightening. Not only did he extensively research governance, he was a governor/trustee himself so knew what it was like to govern schools/academies. He was always willing to chat governance. Not only did we meet at various events, he had kindly given me his contact details and we had many discussions over video calls. The world of school governance mourns the loss of this really lovely, kind and knowledgable man. My thoughts are with his family.

We need some feedback. When Twitter became X, it stopped “talking” to Wakelet so we can’t collate #ukgovchat sessions. We’re wondering if we should explore using Spaces for our weekly chats. Either way, we would need people to host these chats or they can’t happen. Please vote.
