Out today in @AGSJournal, funded by @NIHAging:
Our team (@PittSHRS@UWRehabMed & UCLA) used 100% Medicare claims to examine how admissions to skilled nursing facilities and home health agencies were impacted by @CMSGov payment reforms and the #COVID19 pandemic:
1/
Then #COVID19 changed everything - greatly accelerating the baseline declines in #SNF admissions and increases in #HHA admissions as patients avoided institutional post-acute settings. There was some recovery in #SNF admissions by the end of 2021 - but not back to baseline.
4/
Our work highlights the interconnected nature of SNFs and HHAs, reinforcing how changes in one setting impacts the other.
Next steps include looking at specific patient populations targeted by payment reforms - and more.

More trainee congratulations, this week to our PhD Trainee Rachael Rosen who recently received a doctoral training award from the Orthotics & Prosthetics Foundation!

Harsha worked with mentors in @UWRehabMed and @hspop_uw to examine potential problematic coding in Medicare SNF claims.
We look forward to welcoming @geronsociety folks to Seattle for #GSA2024! @UW_ASPIRe will be sharing our work at multiple sessions, starting with tomorrow's (Weds) poster session kickoff:
