Graphene is electrical conductor. But when its two layers are stacked with a twist, the system can suddenly become insulating. Researchers from Prof. Neupert group @UZHmat , Oxford and Berkeley proposed an explanation to this issue!

Glenn Wagner from @UZHMat @UZHPhysics and collaborators predicted a phase of twisted bilayer graphene called Kekulé spiral journals.aps.org/prl/abstrac…. This has now been seen experimentally in @LabYazdani @PrincetonPhys arxiv.org/abs/2303.00024. Congrats to this very nice success!

We have shown that fully localized, three-dimensional, time-reversal-symmetry-broken insulators do not belong to a single phase of matter, but can realize topologically distinct phases, the topological localized insulators! You can find out more here: journals.aps.org/prl/abstrac…

We found chiral electrons in a nonchiral crystal, and probed them with nonlinear transport. They are switchable, too! Thanks for the amazing collab led by Philip Moll @MPSDHamburg with @mpi_CPfS @Gvamvim @mark_h_fischer . Now out in Nature rdcu.be/cXpWt
