Honored to co-host the C5 1 Culture Ministerial in Tashkent, UZB yesterday. We discussed the importance of cultural preservation, people-to-people exchanges, and frontier applications of “soft-power” tools to strategic and commercial priorities like critical minerals. We also announced a several new initiatives — including a new C5 1 law-enforcement cooperation platform to curb antiquities trafficking and promote border security. Thank you to the gracious Ozodbek Nazarbekov for convening us!

For the first time following a recent reorganization, the State Dept’s Public Diplomacy enterprise includes the office of Digital Freedom — focused on free speech, digital liberties, privacy, and protection from surveillance / malware / scams online. If you follow me for coverage of these issues, please follow @State_DF below!
🧵The U.S. welcomed the opportunity to provide input to the UK for their national consultation on protecting children online. Full response @USAinUK: uk.usembassy.gov/u-s-governm…

The first post details our input into the UK’s online-child-protection consultation process. At a high level, the Trump Administration forcefully supports protecting kids from exploitation, including age-gating for explicit adult material. We want parents, not the government, empowered to calibrate kids’ online experiences. And importantly, legitimate child-protection aims should not become wedges for eliminating privacy, nor for surveilling / chilling political speech.

Akhal-Teke are beautiful and noble — so naturally, communists confiscated them and slaughtered them to near extinction. Legend says that some Turkmen turned their horses loose in the Karakum black-sand desert rather than surrender them; to this day, people say wild horses are found in the area. Since Turkmenistan gained independence in 1991, the Akhal-Teke has been a central symbol of national identity.

In a co-funded partnership with the Getty Museum, our Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation is restoring a giant Buddha-head statue recovered in fragments by archeologists. The techniques are meticulous-- a mix of 3D printing, lasers, and painstaking re-creation of the same sand/clay-based mortar material used to cohere the original statue. A clear takeaway from my travels to Central Asia is that you don't need to choose in dogmatic, meme-brained fashion between tradition and tech. In the right contexts, they complement one another.

Our statement on the UK government’s demand that all content on all devices sold or used in the country be scanned, on the presumption of nudity, using a dystopian combination of age verification and content scanning. This proposal will not safeguard children. It endangers us all. signal.org/blog/pdfs/2026-06…

I greatly admire Singapore’s former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who transformed his small island nation into one of the world’s economic powerhouses. He understood that liberty and order are flip sides of the same coin, and that liberty without order is anarchy and order without liberty is tyranny. I wanted to pay tribute to him while in Singapore, but he expressly disavowed any interest in a statue or monument. So I paid my respects by visiting a spot that he cherished, the National Orchid Garden, to admire the hybrid variety named after him. What a magnificent memorial for one of the great men of the past century. 🇺🇸🤝🇸🇬

At @epc_eu’s Forum, we discussed what is “truly critical” for Europe’s future. The answer: a Europe unshackled by overregulation, powered by energy abundance, and partnered with the U.S. in the global AI race. Innovation, competitiveness, and growth—not bureaucracy—will determine victory. Great to join Sebastien Reyn (@ASMLcompany), @JamesAppathurai, and @ShonaMurray_ for this important conversation.

AI is indigenous to America because, despite occasional cultural swoons, we provide a friendlier environment for tech business innovation than other Anglosphere countries
Fun fact: Canada's new AI Strategy includes the word 'indigenous' over 6 times more than 'GPU'
