A tremendously informative video about Tolkien's reading and teaching. Highly recommended!
What were Tolkien’s Oxford students reading in the 1930s? We actually have a pretty good idea! Today’s video covers Tolkien’s Old English curriculum at Pembroke, what he taught, and how we can learn these poems and selections today. Watch here: youtu.be/ruvevoxXNgw?si=N799…

I had never heard of Die Minneburg before seeing its publication announced. Today, I sat down with translator Winder McConnell to ask him: what is it? The answer is a fascinating medieval allegorical epic about courtly love! Check out the interview here: youtu.be/KeRWWl7-7R0?si=HpAN…

Walther of Aquitaine is a medieval hero (probably of Gothic origins) whom storytellers placed in the presence of such legendary luminaries as Attila the Hun, Gunther the Burgundian (Gundaharius), Dietrich von Bern (Theodoric), and even Charlemagne. To read accounts of Walther in Latin and German, with facing-page English translations, check out these two books!

I finished this anthology from @UppsalaBooks today. Really enjoyed it. My biggest complaint is that it is far too short! I’d have loved a full translation of Evangelienbuch along with a full translation of The Heliand to compare it to.
