ALT "We are heartbroken by the tragic news of the passing of Dr. Cerina Wanzer Fairfax. Our thoughts are with her children and loved ones during this unimaginable time. Dr. Fairfax was a mother, a dentist, and was devoted to giving back to the Fairfax community to help those in need. A proud VCU alumna, she had recently received an Alumni Association Award as an Outstanding Graduate of the Last Decade. In her free time she liked to read, run, practice yoga, travel, and spend time with her family. This devastating tragedy is a painful reminder that domestic violence is extremely prevalent in our communities, and is often ignored. Today, our focus is on the lives upended, especially those of two teenagers who now face an unimaginable grief as a result. We must work to ensure that every victim of domestic violence has the resources and support they need, and ensure that those in crisis are not facing it alone.
