my hot take for the day
the companies laying people off “due to AI” are overcorrecting for the technology’s immediate impact
don’t get me wrong, it is an amazing toolkit at our disposal and should absolutely be incorporated into day-to-day workflows
but it is not yet good enough to do the “people” part of most jobs
people want to do business with people, and until AI is indistinguishable from a human, the cost of letting great people go outweighs the benefit of replacing them with AI
companies should lead by example and teach their teams to use it more effectively before making rash decisions like layoffs
