As much as I love VR, I do agree with Cix here that Quest will die on the hill of "I know best" from people that really did not in-fact know best..
The Quest platform will die. But before it dies people need to know whom to blame. It’s time to put the execs on blast: Let’s start with @boztank a man who entered the VR space like a retarded elephant falling into a boutique coffee shop. Falling over and over onto various cups and plates shouting “the data says” as he clumsily breaks everything while Zuck pats him on the head for being his only friend. Let’s thank @c_pruett whom treated 3rd party devs like an SS agent for doing anything that Meta *might* do in 10 years. Chris while being the head of content, secretly ran his own game studio promoting his games. A man who has a profile picture of a someone drowning because interacting with him is the feeling of dread before you off yourself. Let’s thank AJ Glasser for acting like the witch in Snow White for creating a VR dev blacklist for anyone who questioned Meta’s decisions. Treating the dev store as her own personal toxic clique. Let’s thank Alex Schultz for his smooth brain renaming of Oculus to various forms of corporate slop like “Meta Horizon Worlds Quest”. Last but not least let’s thank the highly unethical “journalists” like @Heaney555 who would act as a propaganda mouthpiece of Boz and Meta. Regurgitating Meta talking points like dictator state media. Attacking any developers whom spoke ill of his God. Thanks guys, I hope those whom pick up the pieces of VR aren’t as lame as you were.

Wish people would delve below surface level statements around AI games this week. I generally disagree on nuking the AI label as per @mattworkman & @TimSweeneyEpic but it's one of two realistic solutions. Putting aside good or bad for the moment the facts remain: - AI use in SOME facets of game production going forward is 90% or higher - This does not automatically = "AI slop" - Many uses of AI aren't obvious/known therefor not self-reported - Consumer information is important, BUT with the current AI label: a) It's not enforced at all b) It's an honor system that cannot be validated c) Developers are incentivized to not self-report d) There's no clear definition e) There is no distinction between "I used chat gpt to help me write an import tool for blender" vs "This entire game is AI generated" - consumers are treating this as a binary checkbox Argument for deleting the label is a bit heavy handed but the only other option is a more nuanced system that considers the above and is actually enforced (very difficult & very subjective). People that are arguing over consumer rights component here are missing the forest for the trees. The current system is largely inaccurate and will be increasingly unreliable going forwards.
Steam and all digital marketplaces need to drop the “Made with AI” label. It doesn’t matter any more.

Mr Zuck, I don't feel so good... Horizon will be the biggest tech industry sunk cost fallacy investment for years to come and studied for generations. Own Everything < Grow Your Ecosystem You pull an Apple years after it's up and running, not before it's taken it's first steps
If success for Meta is measured by > engagement especially in MR > Horizon Worlds breaking out on mobile then we're doomed. Totally missing the mark on what's working with their product lines. smh

This is actually a big cost saving measure by Twitch, moving video encoding over to client side compute will save a massive amount of server side AWS compute they were previously spending on this. Will make OBS more expensive to run/more bandwidth usage but likely not by much.
📢 Enhanced Broadcasting is now available to everyone! Stream multiple video qualities for your viewers for a more accessible viewing experience with client-side encodes on your hardware 🖥️ “Automatic Configuration” applies the best OBS encoder settings based on your PC’s hardware at the click of a button 🧙 Simply upgrade to the latest version of OBS Studio or XSplit Broadcaster to get started 💜 Learn more, here: 🔗 link.twitch.tv/EnhancedBroad…

Once again reminder that the old guard, sat on their ivory VR design principled tower (including Meta themselves) were totally full of it and that a ton of exploration around VR games/experiences shouldn't be filtered by the "we who know best" part of the industry.

Rules for thee but not for me! (and my billionaire platform friends)
Really Boz? You want to start this publicly? You make exceptions for YouTube, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and others to sell/rent movies. You explicitly disallow @BigscreenVR, while allowing "special partners" that Meta has secretly allowed. Studios like Paramount, Sony, etc. set the price (ex. $3.99) and the royalty fee, typically between 60-80% of the retail price. This is a low margin business, leaving 0-20-40% for the distributor to pay massive bandwidth/ops costs and hopefully make a tiny profit. This is the movie distribution business. Every film distributor – YouTube, Amazon, even @BigscreenVR – follows the exact same price and similar % royalty fees. YouTube, Amazon do not pay any IAP % cut to Meta and are allowed to do off-platform transactions (ex. credit card or saved payment methods). @BigscreenVR is not allowed to do that, and was threatened by Meta's legal team (including verbal abuse from Meta employees, but let's ignore that) that if we didn't use IAP and give 30% to Meta, we would be sued/shut down. Meta's unfriendly developer policies prevent us from experimenting. It's impossible to do any sort of ecommerce, digital goods, crypto etc. experiment in VR. Impossible because Meta won't allow it and the only way to get permission is through "pitch decks." This is gatekeeping innovation and if I had any power at Meta, I'd ask Meta to unleash creativity and empower developers to create whatever they want without such arcane restrictions. So go ahead and tell me how you treated us fairly like everybody else?

Reminder that the the news we just got from Meta was the original Oculus plan, Meta instead wanted to be the Apple of this generation Apple and Google are now forcing a course correction but be under no illusion that Meta should be taking credit for this "masterful gambit"

Meta taking on the Android mantle for XR is great news, hopefully this means they are acknowledging the "own everything" approach is no longer the winning strategy for now. This likely doesn't remain true long term (see Apple/Google) BUT it does bode well for the coming years!
ICYMI, @finkd just announced that we’re opening up the operating system powering our Meta Quest devices to third-party hardware makers, giving more choice to consumers and a larger ecosystem for developers to build for. meta.com/blog/quest/meta-hor…

Great story to tell now that I have dragged myself back to relevance, but you aren't credible. You retweeted posts claiming I donated to white supremacists, and a post saying that anyone who supports Trump because they don't like Hillary Clinton is a shitty human being. You publicly told everyone my departure had nothing to do with politics, which is absolutely insane and obviously contradicted by reams of internal communications. It is like saying the sky is green. Same goes for you telling people that I wasn't pressured into saying anything untrue, that any mention of politics and who I was voting for was up to me. Can I post my original statement, the one that was explicitly rejected on account of saying negative things about Hillary Clinton, or is that still considered Work Product? Maybe you are lying, maybe you are just ignorant and willing to launder the lies of others about something you weren't even around for, but don't try to play the apolitical hero here.

The DMA went through its first major challenge with Apple banning Epic Games Sweden from competing with the App Store, and the DMA just had its first major victory. Following a swift inquiry by the European Commission, Apple notified the Commission and Epic that it would relent and restore our access to bring back Fortnite and launch Epic Games Store in Europe under the DMA law. A big win for European rule of law, for the European Commision, and for the freedom of developers worldwide to speak up. #FreeFortnite! epicgames.com/site/en-US/new…

If the 2 biggest complaints are weight and battery life (bet that'll be #2 complaint soon) it'll match what 90% of VR power users want The next XR breaking point imo: 1. @BigscreenVR Beyond form factor 2. Quest Tracking Passthrough 3. Puck (they really aren't scary guys)

First time I tried Vision Pro: Damn this display is amazing and the eye tracking is like magic and this feels very future and also it’s a little heavy Second time: immersion factor is still so high. Special videos are hit or miss, you gotta get the distance right. And wow this thing is really, heavy, not sure how long I’d be able to wear this Third time: Damn this thing is heavy. Also the typing experience is decent. There’s some new cool apps to check out. But wow. So heavy.
