Tirupati is most visited pilgrimage destination with a footfall of over 2.5 crore devotees in 2024. Yet, it does not have a dedicated railway division and is currently split across 4 divisions under 2 railway zones. A separate Tirupati Railway Division, with Tirupati as its headquarters would ensure better passenger management, enhanced safety, improved infrastructure planning, and focused attention to the needs of millions of pilgrims. Happy to note that the South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) with HQ in Vizag becomes operational today. I had raised this demand repeatedly in Parliament, engaged with the Hon. Railway Minister & helped resolve several hurdles along the way. This is a landmark moment for the people of Uttarandhra and a significant step forward for AP’s rail connectivity. But, the Railway Zone excludes the highly profitable KK Line and also does not set up a Railway Recruitment Board for Railway aspirants from AP.
