Today all 27 EU Member States unanimously approved EU position on Cluster 1 at COREPER.
Grateful to Cypriot Presidency, European Commission, and Member States for their strong support for Ukraine’s EU path.
Looking ahead to the Luxembourg IGC on 15 June to open Cluster 1.
On 15 June, under #CY2026EU, we will convene the Accession Conferences with Ukraine and Moldova to open Cluster 1 – Fundamentals.
The Cyprus Presidency is proud to have driven forward this historic moment. As Presidency we worked intensively to reach this outcome.
This is a milestone and a recognition of the aspirations, resilience and hard work of the two candidates that have chosen Europe and its values.
As we take this important step together, we reaffirm that the European Union is strongest when it stands united, principled and open to those committed to its values.

The opening of the path towards Cluster 1 is an important milestone in Ukraine’s EU accession process.
Grateful to @CY2026EU for its leadership and to EU Member States, @EU_Commission, and EU institutions for their support and commitment.
Together, we are moving Europe forward.
Τοday the Cyprus Presidency initiated the preparation for the formal opening of Cluster one in the accession negotiations of Ukraine and Moldova.
This marks a significant milestone in their European integration path, and sends a strong message of EU unity and determination.
In the coming days, we will continue working dedicately towards finalizing the discussions in the Council for the formal opening of the cluster.
The Cyprus Presidency, guided by the merit-based approach, is delivering on enlargement, which is a strategic priority and one of the European Union’s most transformative policies.

Important meeting with Mayor Boychenko of @MariupolRada, heroic Ukrainian city now in exile. We discussed the Mariupol Justice Initiative, support for displaced people from Donetsk region, and further cooperation. Russia must be held accountable, and victims fully compensated.
