Conducting real-time epidemiological research during a pandemic demands adaptability. In the AVISA study, we faced recruitment challenges, vaccination shifts, and logistical complexity. Progress relied on flexibility and coordination. resilient research requires rapid adaptation.

In a disruptive environment, delay is the highest-risk strategy. Don’t wait for full clarity. Another mistake is treating AI, workforce, and strategy as separate conversations. They are one and the same transformation.

We report in Nature Medicine that the single-dose Butantan dengue vaccine showed 65% efficacy against symptomatic dengue and 80.5% protection against severe disease over 5 years, with a favorable safety profile in participants aged 2–59 in Brazil.

Αn important study long overdue!
Maternal dengue antibodies can have two effects in infants: early protection, followed by increased risk of severe disease between 5–12 months (antibody-dependent enhancement). In Brazil dengue rose sharply from 2000–2024, with peaks of severe risk at birth and around 7–8 months.
