(25 days of books from Prince Rupert's library)
'Dell' Arcano del Mare' - or Mystery of the Sea - was a sea atlas of the world, written by Sir Robert Dudley, illegitimate son of Elizabeth I's favourite, the Earl of Leicester.
Written in Italian, it contained navigational knowledge, astronomical aids, shipbuilding, and naval & military discipline. With over 200 engraved plates and 146 charts, it was a prized book. Rupert had two copies.
Nowadays they are priced up to £1million.
