A huge welcome to @StephenMorganMP as the new Food Security Minister — who after a quick search of hansard has mentioned “Farming” ZERO times in Parliament since being elected in 2017. Great to have another outspoken voice for farmers in DEFRA 💪 It’s now absolutely clear. Labour are truly dedicated to our farmers.

I am proud to represent the brave RAF personnel who serve at @RAFConingsby. The government must wake up to the reality of this increasingly volatile world and ensure that our armed forces have the resources they need to keep us safe. Thank you to @JohnHealey_MP for acting honourably in the midst of this government’s muddle.

🌾It wasn’t just any ordinary day out at the @CerealsEvent alongside Shadow Farming Minister @_RobbieMoore. This year, the principal showcase for Britain’s arable sector was hosted at none other than Clarkson’s Farm – a real treat, especially as my family and I have been thoroughly enjoying the latest season! Walking around the site, we were impressed by the sheer level of innovation on display. From groundbreaking new crop varieties to cutting-edge precision farming technology, it was fantastic to see how tech and modernisation are fuelling the UK's arable industry. But when we got chatting with farmers, growers and agronomists, serious concerns about the future quickly surfaced. The two recurring anxieties were Labour’s proposed EU-UK SPS deal and their looming fertiliser tax. · On the SPS front, many raised urgent concerns regarding the government’s push for full dynamic alignment with the EU. Forcing the UK to follow Brussels’ rules threatens our regulatory independence in vital areas including our food laws, gene editing and pesticides, while risking high compliance costs that will directly drive up the cost of production. · Compounding this is the threat of Labour’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). With the sector already heavily exposed to global supply shocks due to Middle East tensions, introducing an added carbon tax on fertiliser could trigger severe crop reductions and create an unequal playing field for British agriculture. Piling a new tax on top of already high input costs will only drive food prices higher for consumers. This is fundamentally wrong, and it is exactly why the @Conservatives will scrap this fertiliser tax. Despite these serious challenges, I always come away from these events encouraged by the brilliant people at the heart of this crucial British industry. It reminds me just why it is so important that we Conservatives keep the pressure on this Labour government and hold them to account for their continued vindication of the countryside, whilst coming up with our plans to revitalise British farming and food production when we’re in government. Until next year Cereals!

John Healey, the former Defence Secretary, has acted honourably by resigning. Keir Starmer is too weak to cut welfare and fund defence - as I told him yesterday at PMQs. Only the Conservatives have a plan to put our national security first.

Last year, this Labour Government closed the SFI scheme overnight. After a year of dither and delay, rising food prices, and record farm closures, the drastic cuts in this budget will force many farms to stop their environmental work as they will not be able to afford it. And only last week, the Government all but stopped BPS as well. There are tens of thousands of farmers waiting for SFI. The modest amounts of money now allocated to this scheme mean the vast majority will be left with nothing and nature will suffer as a consequence. Meanwhile, this Government continues to raise taxes on farms to pay for Labour's ballooning benefits bill.

☔️🐄🚜🇬🇧 Great to be down in Cornwall - attending the @RoyalCornwall - meeting with many farmers, growers and industry representatives from across the South West. The Royal Cornwall Show is a mighty spectacular of all things food and farming - showcasing the very best the county has to offer - with some of the finest British livestock being judged. I took part in many a roundtable, meeting with primary producers to discuss current challenges they are facing from increased cashflow pressures, to TB, bio security concerns and the roll out of the latest round of the Sustainable Farming Incentive. I also attended the @RABIcharity launch of their Farmers Aid App - which I encourage all to download as it will help save lives. You can find out more about it by clicking here farmersaid.org.uk Great also to meet representatives from Farm Cornwall - who help farmers across the county with financial, farming business, relationship and health issues advice. My message to those I spoke with - the status quo cannot continue. Food security must be at the heart of all government thinking. Farmers need clarity, consistency and certainty. I also made the point that Defra’s arms length bodies are not fit for purpose - and I outlined the hard work our Shadow Defra team are doing in reviewing the huge frustrations many have with those organisations such as Natural England and the Environment Agency.

Celebrating 20 years of @OpenFarmSunday! Today is the day to get out there and see what British farming is all about. Since @LEAF_Farming started this back in 2006, over 2,000 farmers have opened their gates to more than 3.25 million people. It’s always a privilege to get out on farms in Lincolnshire and across the country and thank you to all the incredible farmers welcoming visitors today. Your hard work shows everyone the reality of how our food is produced and how you protect and preserve our countryside. So if you’re keen to see the journey from farm to fork and meet the people behind it, head over to the Open Farm Sunday website to find out which farms are open near you today 👉 farmsunday.org/

Good to catch up with Stuart and Jo from Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance in Parliament this week. Since the conflict in Iran, the cost of a single air ambulance mission has skyrocketed from around £12,700 to £24,600. I have written to the Government asking them to urgently look into this as this service is absolutely critical for rural areas like ours. Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance are also actively fundraising to secure a second, faster helicopter to help them deliver more life-saving care. If you would like to find out more about their efforts and are keen to help visit 👉ambucopter.org.uk/make-a-don… @AirAmbulancesUK

Banking Hubs make a vital difference to rural communities like ours in Lincolnshire. Yet, Lloyds remains the only major British bank refusing to allow cheque deposits at Post Offices and these shared hubs. This decision is directly impacting local constituents, especially our many elderly, vulnerable and digitally excluded residents who rely on face-to-face services. A group of MPs, including myself, have written to Lloyds to urge them to personally review this decision and protect their most vulnerable customers.

❓Labour: “Who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others?” From the Family Farm and the Family Business Taxes to the Fertiliser Tax, Business Rates and National Insurance hikes, why should hard-working farmers, pub landlords, rural businesses and communities be pushed to the brink to pay for Labour’s ballooning benefits bill? 🥀Labour Party = Welfare Party

Farmers across the country are already under enough pressure from this Government. Its fertiliser tax (CBAM), due to come into force in 2027, will only add to their costs. We need to scrap it.

Elspeth has been a staunch champion of Scotland’s fishing industry. I have valued her clear thinking, wry humour and common sense whilst challenging the government’s woeful fish deal with the EU. I thank her for her tireless work in defending our fishing industry and wish her a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement. Elspeth, you will be missed! pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/bus…

Today I have met Lucy, Mark and Katie, Henry Nowak’s mother, father and stepmother. Their courage is extraordinary. They have endured the most appalling loss, it is a life sentence for them. They have also faced the agonising decision to release the harrowing body-worn camera footage, knowing how painful it would be and how strongly people would react. They did so because they want truth, accountability and change. They have asked that we work across political parties and religions to rebuild trust in the police. That trust has been broken because of what happened, and I agree with them on that. We must also be prepared to examine, carefully and seriously, religious practices or exemptions that permit the carrying of dangerous weapons in public, and other activities that are not conducive to the public good. We also need to examine where the law needs to change. Henry’s family do not want anger to tear communities apart. They are a family who have friends across faith and race, and so did Henry. His family want his memory to help bring our society together. Everyone knows I have strong views about how we should deal with equality under the law. What the family agreed with me on is that we need to bring common sense back, and that is what we should all be fighting for. I promised the family that we will work to ensure there is a positive legacy for Henry out of this tragedy. That is my focus now.

🥀When Labour negotiate, Britain loses.
🐟Our UK fishing & agri-food industries are vital for our economy & food security.🚜 Fishermen & women & farmers deserve certainty. The Govt must not repeat the mistakes of last year’s EU fisheries deal. We @Conservatives will always stand up for our fishing & agri-food sectors.
