The city of San Francisco: "...prohibit use of lithium-ion batteries assembled or reconditioned using cells removed from used batteries..." Me, who does not respect the law:

This event is about celebrating America’s unmatched greatness after 250 years — which apparently doesn’t sit well with the friendless loser who wrote this bullshit clickbait headline. Rain or shine, we’re celebrating our great country no matter what. GOD BLESS AMERICA! 🇺🇸

I'm betting this is still going to be hilarious when the secret service shows up with a printout of the tweet.

I really miss the pretense of defense contractors saying, "it's for finding lost hikers in the woods!" and "we're mining manganese nodules at the bottom of the south china sea!". Now it's just, "*slaps roof of drone* you can kill so many brown kids with this baby"

There are two planes orbiting downtown SF today, each towing banners for some AI startup you haven't heard of, and can't read on the banners. Two! Two banner planes! The Franzia box wine banner is in shambles.

If I have infinite AI credits from work, why *shouldn't* I make "Woke Oregon Trail" where there's the option to be a black freeman, travel to Oregon, then be kicked out because of the Oregon Exclusion Law and have to travel back to Missouri?

I had a consultant email me wanting to have a chat about this product. "This is four Nvidia 6000 Blackwells next to a random person's house. This is $100k of hardware. If I had this hardware now, I could sell these on Craigslist by Friday. I own bolt cutters."
Nvidia will now pay you to put a mini AI data center on your house It looks like a normal AC unit in the yard. But inside sits 16 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Dell servers. A startup called Span builds them, backed by Nvidia. They bolt onto your home and you get paid for the power and Wi-Fi. Some estimates put that around $1,000 a month in your pocket. That is rent money just for hosting a box outside. Span says it deploys way faster and cheaper than a real data center. The AI boom is literally moving into the suburbs. Save this, the grid is getting rebuilt in real time.

Alright, I've been _around_. I read the ads in issues of Wired around William Gibson articles. I can't recall ~the language something is written in~ being a selling point for a piece of software. Maybe Java, in 1996. Same with Delphi. But Rust? Holy shit it's written in Rust.

Did you know computers only work because they can feel pain? If they didn't feel pain, they wouldn't work!

Historically, one of the main reasons for subsidizing tertiary education is a backstop against fascism.

In our surveys, we consistently see that the *only* group Republicans aren't collapsing with is white, college-educated voters. In fact, in several of them, Republicans outrun Trump's 2024 vote share! So it means super white states (NE/NH/ME/WI) probably see less of a shift left
