ALT Text: 5 fact about nystagmus. 20th June is nystagmus awareness day. Here are five facts about the eye condition. Nystagmus is a repetitive, involuntary movement of the eyes. Nystagmus can affect very young babies but it can also develop later in life. Early-onset nystagmus can be caused by eye conditions, learning disabilities or neurological conditions. Stroke or multiple sclerosis can cause acquired nystagmus due to brain damage in the area that controls eye movement. Vision can be extremely impaired or vision very close to normal.
