I’m constantly astonished that billionaires would rather ignore the climate crisis and prepare to live in a bunker with dvds and baked beans than devote a modicum of their bottomless wealth to saving the planet where we have fresh fruit and soft grass and blue skies.

Most of the engineers who worked through the space race are dead. The rest are retired. And we're doing everything from scratch because the old ways of doing things cost too much to be commercially viable at scale.

Did they executed every single rocket scientist after the end of the space race of something? Why are they basically redoing everything from scratch? By 50s having your rockets blowing up were already considered a deep embarrassment, but now it's standard operation.

Obsessed by this belief that chronically ill patients are imagining or creating their own problems by first forcing themselves into bed and then becoming ill rather than the obvious- it is the other way around. I had and have no motivation to want to be homebound lol

It's being used actively for hiring and firing decisions. HR person I worked with was using Claude as therapy to use self affirmation that she is a good person. After laying off people.
There is a lot of AI psychosis among senior leaders. Will be very obvious at some point.

I remember thinking the talk about AI dependency was overplayed by the media until in a coffee shop I sat down beside a couple chatting with an AI bot on whether they should attend a friends funeral.
It was then I knew the tech would have massive sociological implications.

Fork your dependencies, trim them to only your use case, never update unless it breaks for your users. I’ve been vocal about this for 10 years. I’ve always said that updating is way riskier than latent bugs (which can be tracked and CVEs monitored).
If you are updating a dependency, it’s on you to analyze every single commit in the full transitive set of dependencies. If you dont see anything compelling, dont update!
I remember at HashiCorp once in awhile an engineer would try to update a dep or replace a DIY lib with an external one and id always ask “show me the commit we need.” Dont update for the sake of it.
Feeling pretty swell about this mentality with all the supply chain attacks happening.
