I need to visit Volta Region again.

On 15th June 2026, I was pleased to receive a delegation from the National College of Defence Studies (NCDS), led by the Deputy Commander of the College, Brigadier General Eric Konadu, on a courtesy call at the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council in Ho. The team, made up of senior military officers, and participants from Ghana and other African countries, is in the Volta Region as part of a research exercise on the theme, "National Cohesion, Security and Sustainable Development." I commended the College for its commitment to developing strategic leaders and undertaking research that contributes to national development, peace and security. I also assured the delegation of our support as they engage stakeholders across the region.

Together with the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, we joined officials from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to officially launch the Free Primary Health Care Program in selected districts across the Volta Region. The team visited Agotime Health Centre, Akpokofe CHPS Compound, Akatsi North Health Centre, and the almost completed Dzodze Market Health Kiosk to engage health workers and community members on the importance of the initiative. This flagship intervention by the Mahama government will improve access to quality healthcare delivery through the provision of essential medical equipment and logistics support to beneficiary districts. We concluded the exercise with a fruitful engagement with health stakeholders in the Volta Region at the Health Services Training Centre in Ho to discuss the successful implementation of the program and the way forward for healthcare delivery in the region.

Today, together with the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and other stakeholders, we officially launched the Free Primary HealthCare Program in the Volta Region. The launch marks a significant step in the Mahama-led government's commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians. As part of the programme, essential medical equipment was handed over to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve services at the primary healthcare level across the Volta region. Prior to the launch, we paid a courtesy call on the Asogli Traditional Council and engaged key stakeholders whose support remains vital to the successful implementation of this transformative initiative. In my remarks, I emphasized that the Free Primary Healthcare Program will expand access to healthcare, reduce inequalities, and enhance the overall effectiveness of primary healthcare delivery in our communities.

It was an exciting and refreshing experience as I visited the beautiful Wli Waterfalls together with the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mrs. Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Volta Regional Director of GTA, Madam Roberta Okine-Fumador, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Prosper Kumi, and other officials. The visit formed part of efforts to explore the enormous tourism and investment potential within the Volta Region and to assess some of the challenges affecting tourism development, especially accessibility to tourist sites. During the visit, we paid homage to the chiefs and elders of the Wli community and interacted with staff, residents, and visitors at the site. Their insights and commitment to promoting tourism in the area were truly inspiring. The Volta Region has over 120 tourist sites with huge untapped potential capable of creating jobs and boosting local economic growth when properly developed. Wli Waterfalls remains one of our greatest tourism assets, and we are committed to working with stakeholders and investors to unlock its full potential. The GTA is also engaging investors on opportunities for eco-lodges, restaurants, and other hospitality facilities that will enhance the tourism experience and create employment for our people. Together, we will continue to position the Volta Region as Ghana’s preferred tourism destination.

Today, I officially launched this year’s Tree for Life Project at Taviefe Senior High School in the Volta Region as part of government’s flagship environmental initiative under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama. As a region, we are expected to plant 300,000 seedlings to support efforts at combating climate change and protecting our environment for future generations. Trees are life, and protecting the environment must become part of our culture and daily living. I urge everyone to not only plant trees but also nurture them to maturity.
