It’s a mystery.
It always amazes me how a nation of shopkeepers (Japan) managed to convince the world it’s a nation of warriors. What’s funnier is how people are convinced China can’t fight when it’s a state that has had continuous warfare for millennia. The post-1979 era is a bit of an anomaly.

If I killed the goose that lays golden eggs we could all get a bite of goose!
If we liquidated Elon Musk as a financial entity we could each pocket $3,000. Just putting that out there. 3K. Not bad.

To build off of this, I think it would be pretty cool if some rich people just picked a bunch of biologists who are respected by other biologists and paid them each 200k to write, teach, and perform labs for the full range of undergrad classes. Do the same for other sci/math. 1/?
I think it’s rather interesting that despite being far wealthier in absolute terms than a Vanderbilt or Carnegie or Stanford, and being directly positioned in an industry that could benefit from it, no tech elite has ever founded a university, and few have even given endowments

Hire production people, post the assessments with an answer key for anyone who wants it. It would be expensive, but there’s no way you couldn’t find a few hundred rich people to fund at least one class. That would be an enormous service to kids/adults around the world who 2/?

want to learn something, but don’t otherwise have access or attend a high school that leaves something to be desired. You can watch a lot of this stuff on Youtube, but some of it is outdated, there are enough cranks that it’s hard for a layperson to navigate, etc. Somebody do it

I don’t know. Most of this is unrealized gains. Henwood has forgotten more about markets and economics than I’ve ever known, but I’m not sure what’s to be done other than rollback Citizen’s United and make sure they can’t spend it in politics.
Pure dystopia. Bloomberg:

They would spend the same amount on some war in the Middle East, give a cut to Israel, and hemorrhage the rest to nonprofits that somehow never get closer to achieving their mission. I want us to help people, but our government can’t correctly spend what they’re given.
A 5% tax on Elon’s net worth would fund every community health center in America for the next 26 years. I’ll say it again. Tax the rich.

I used to live in Korea and can confirm they’re savants at the art of getting incredibly fucked up.
The Koreans in Mexico are going to invent binge drinking methods that will advance the craft by decades in mere weeks

This is the only image of a dinosaur that gives me a jolt. It feels like looking at a real animal that’s about to attack you.

Limbless rodents swim with paddles modified from hairs, patrolling the shallow coastal seas of the Xenocene, 400 million years in the future. Their newborns are nigh microscopic: the first mammals to join the tanks of zooplankton.
