The drug war all over again. I just used Australia as a recent example of the failure of high taxes, bans on THR and the predictable outcome of violence because of an enforcement only strategy. One more example of a drug war failure.
If you want to see into a small window of what Australia's crisis looks like as result of deplorable policy on vapes and cigs, here it is: youtu.be/w3c98dOVAsE?si=XKDm…

Fasten your seatbelts, bc here we go again, @WarOnDrugs 2.0. @Tobacco & @vapes. Violence, corruption, overworked police, expensive misdirected police services, unregulated dangerous products flooding neighborhoods, and more accessibility to kids. SMDH! youtube.com/watch?v=w3c98dOV…

‘Why Overdose Deaths Are Falling—and It Isn’t Because of the Drug War’ by @dr4liberty “If bombing traffickers and escalating interdiction were meaningfully reducing supply, illicit drug prices should be rising. Instead, black markets continue to deliver cheaper, more potent, and more easily transported substances. After more than 50 years of failure, the drug war remains far better at generating black markets than saving lives.” acsh.org/news/2026/06/05/why…

Shoddy police work is an understatement. Incompetence from start to finish given the gravity of the the crime.

🌿 The evidence linking marijuana legalization and lower opioid overdose rates keeps getting harder to ignore. These findings add to decades of research showing that states with legal cannabis access experience fewer opioid-related harms, not more. 🔗 Read more: norml.org/blog/2026/05/29/an…

"Another Point of View: Reefer Madness!" Authors: Stacy D’Andre, MD (Mayo Clinic) and Donald Abrams, MD (UCSF Professor Emeritus) offer a response to a study by Johnson et al. on cannabis legalization and rising breast/testicular cancer rates in young Americans/Canadians. Main Critique: The study's conclusions are overstated and do not prove causality. It is an ecological/population-level analysis that does not track individual cannabis use or exposure. Alternative Explanations for Rising Cancers: Other factors like processed/ultraprocessed foods (62% of caloric intake in young Americans), obesity, sedentary lifestyle, environmental exposures, gut microbiome changes, tobacco, and alcohol are more plausible contributors with longer exposure periods. Rapid Timeline Issue: Cancer increases occurred too quickly for cannabis to be a potent carcinogen (would expect multi-year/decade lag). If endocrine disruption were involved, observed breast cancers would likely be triple-negative. Testicular Cancer Association: National Academies (NASEM) found only limited evidence linking cannabis to non-seminoma germ cell tumors. This is likely confounded by demographics (young men use cannabis and get testicular cancer) — correlation, not causation (compared to açaí bowls and skin cancer). Broader Claims: Allegations of cannabis links to 25/41 cancers echo the 1930s film Reefer Madness. NASEM found moderate evidence of no association with lung/oropharyngeal cancers; co-use of tobacco/alcohol (common in cannabis use disorder) explains more harm. Immunotherapy Interaction: Cited negative study on cannabis immunotherapy has methodological flaws and has been contradicted by later research showing no worse outcomes. Overall Assessment: The paper is hypothesis-generating only (observational, no longitudinal patient tracking). ascopost.com/issues/june-10-…

PALAU just asked the United Nations to review nicotine as a controlled drug. Today, the tiny nation (pop. ~20,000) requested the WHO to evaluate whether nicotine should be scheduled under the 1971 international drug treaty. 🥴 nicotinereview.org/ nicotinereview.org/proposal
