With temperatures expected to reach more than 90 degrees June 14 and 15, the Federal Way Community Center will be open as a cooling center during regular business hours. ☀🌡 The Community Center is open Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cooling center is open to the public free of charge, but no pets are allowed. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫: As the weather dries out, our maintenance crews get busy working on road construction projects through out the city. From crack sealing, pot hole repair, asphalt overlay, tree and brush trimming and new road construction projects – we do it all! Our workers are required to wear their personal protection equipment, trained to put out cones and signage and use our vehicles with flashing light as barriers to make sure they stay safe when working in the road. Always, and especially during construction season, keep your eyes on the road, slow down, and obey all traffic signs and revisions to help keep our crews (and you) safe!

Community members hiked up the BPA Trail over the weekend with bags and trash pickers as part of a Community Cleanup effort spearheaded by our Public Works team. Volunteers of all ages worked side by side to pick up litter, beautify the trail and strengthen community connections while promoting environmental stewardship. Our Public Works team partnered with South King Tool Library over the weekend to host a mattress and tire recycling and document shredding event, giving community members an easy way to recycle bulky items without leaving their vehicles. Together, we recycled 338 tires, 92 mattresses and box springs, and collected 6,000 pounds of documents for secure shredding! We all play a role in keeping Federal Way green! Last night, Mayor Jim Ferrell swore in two Federal Way Police Department officers following their promotions and joined the City Council to present two proclamations at the regular City Council meeting. Congratulations to Lieutenant Jeffrey Mundell on his promotion to Commander and Officer Eric Clark on his promotion to Corporal! Councilmember Melissa Hamilton presented a proclamation recognizing June as Pride Month to Lakehaven Commissioner Juan Juarez Ramos.
