#DYK Thunderstorms can develop quickly and become dangerous with little warning. Heavy rain, damaging winds, hail, lightning, and even tornadoes are all possible during severe weather. →Stay weather-aware by monitoring forecasts and having multiple ways to receive warnings. →Know where you will take shelter before a storm arrives. →Secure outdoor items and prepare your home for strong winds. Remember: When thunder roars, go indoors! If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe. #PreparedNotScared #WeatherAware

TICK SAFETY 101 Summer means more time outside, but it also means increased exposure to ticks. Whether you're hiking, gardening, camping, or enjoying a day at the park, a few simple precautions can help keep you and your family safe. ✅ Wear light-colored clothing to spot ticks more easily ✅ Use EPA-approved insect repellent ✅ Stay on marked trails and avoid tall grass and leaf litter ✅ Shower and perform a tick check after spending time outdoors ✅ Check clothing, gear, and pets before coming back inside If you find a tick, remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers, clean the area, and monitor for symptoms such as a rash, fever, or flu-like illness. Take a few minutes to protect yourself today so you can enjoy the outdoors all summer long. #SummerSafety #TickPrevention

The humid air mass will remain in place. This combined with temperatures rising into the upper 80s to around 90 both today and tomorrow will result in the heat index approaching 100. Be sure to take precautions, especially if you will be spending time outdoors.

A cold front will approach the area late Thursday night and cross the region on Friday. Storms should be weakening as they approach Thursday night but a few stronger cannot be ruled out. Storms will redevelop Friday afternoon as the front starts to move out of the area.

🚤 Murphy Says: Safe Boating Starts Before You Leave the Dock! 🛟 Whether you're heading out on the lake for fishing, tubing, kayaking, or just relaxing on the water, preparation can make all the difference. Before setting out: ✅️ Check your boat and safety equipment ✅ Wear a properly fitted life jacket ✅ File a float plan with someone you trust ✅ Bring drinkable water, sunscreen, and extra clothes ✅ Watch for signs of heat illness ✅ Keep a first-aid kit and fire extinguisher onboard Did you know? The majority of boating fatalities involve drowning, and most victims were not wearing a life jacket. Life jackets save lives, for adults and kids alike. Enjoy the water, but make safety your first priority this summer! 🌞 ⚓️

LOOK AT THE FACTS 💧 More than 75% of childhood drownings happen during NON-SWIM times. 70% of childhood drowning victims are NOT wearing swimsuits. That means prevention and supervision matter far more than swimsuit color alone. ✅ Prevention Before Submersion: • Always have a designated Water Watcher • Ensure weak or non-swimmers wear proper life jackets • Install barriers such as fences and pool covers • Enroll children in swim lessons early, as young as 1 year old 👀 What is a Water Watcher? A Water Watcher is a designated adult whose ONLY job is supervising swimmers. No phones. No distractions. No conversations. Active supervision saves lives. ⚠️ Know what drowning really looks like: It is NOT like Hollywood. Most drownings are swift and silent. Rarely is there waving or yelling. 🎨 Why swimsuit colors still matter: Bright, visible colors can help you quickly identify your child in the water, but color should NEVER replace active supervision and layered water safety practices. The best water safety strategy is prevention before submersion. *This information and more at stepintoswim.org #WaterSafety #ChildSafety
