Meeting members of Eritrea’s Barefoot Doctors Initiative was a powerful reminder of the critical role of community health workers in advancing primary health care. By delivering essential health services, health promotion and disease prevention in remote communities, they are helping expand access to care and advance health equity. Community-based health services are vital to achieving health for all.

As part of the Ebola response in Ituri Province, DRC, @MinSanteRDC, with support from @WHO and @UNICEF, trained health workers, supervisors and IPC focal points from facilities across the health zone to strengthen infection prevention and control practices. The training covered hand hygiene, screening and triage, safe management of healthcare waste, proper use of PPE, and cleaning and disinfection procedures. Participants are now better equipped to protect patients, fellow health workers and communities.
