Nigel Farage's Substack is a remarkable example of how far things have come. Even two years ago, reading these words from the pen of a future Prime Minister would have been unimaginable. It's also an interesting development in itself, with Starmer having already started releasing regular essays (admittedly with far less depth than Farage's). An expectation that political leaders engage in long form writing would certainly be a positive development, and a useful filter against Burnham-esque empty messaging. Not suggesting that's an imminent or inevitable thing - of course, it's unlikely either Starmer or Farage have written any of these essays themselves - but it isn't impossible to imagine it developing this way. Frankly, a weekly 3000 word essay would be a far better way of holding the PM to account than PMQs.

A classic picture of 20-year-old Fred Trueman bowling for Yorkshire v Essex at Brentwood, June 14th 1951. In his first full season he took 90 wickets at 20.57 and was carefully managed by Norman Yardley to ensure he was not overbowled. National Service meant Trueman's appearances were limited in 1952 and 1953 although he did make his Test debut in that time

It is literally insane simultaneously to think that 16 and 17 year olds are mature enough to vote but not mature enough to look at Instagram at 8:30pm. This is comically absurd.

What is more Anglofuturist, in its own way, than this intentionally humble, instantly emotionally grabbing and recognisable, piece of explicitly digital art?
Hockney was one of the worldโ€™s most successful artists, and could have done anything, anywhere. But his late-life art was laser-focussed on the transient seasonal beauty of the English, particularly Yorkshire countryside, his best works drawn digitally on an IPad.
