Why is the Aarhus convention important? It guarantees the public three fundamental rights: - to know (access to environmental information), - to participate (a voice in decision-making), - to challenge (the ability to hold government to account in court).
Deregulation in planning and a withdrawal from Aarhus to block judicial reviews will lead to devastated habitats and decreased biodiversity. It will make it easier for the road zealots to build a road through places like our woods. They were stopped through tough regulations!

Until you have looked at the Development Consent Order for 400kv pylons construction you have no idea of the carnage. This is the village where I grew up. Not only will it be ruined, views wise, and lose loads of trees, but they are incredibly close to the village and 50m high. The church is 30m. Look at the construction swathe and weep. We do have a crowdfunder (the campaign spans 180km and three counties) and we are at the Examination in public of the DCO phase so need lawyers and other experts: crowdfunder.co.uk/p/legal-fe…

Today contractors from National Grid turned up at this farm ready to clear all of this vegetation, including the four oaks, without the required dawn bird survey. It is only because the land owner was on his toes and challenged them that they left. Plus National Grid has not explained why it is β€˜not practicable’ to uphold their DCO obligation to avoid nesting season. They were not even able to explain why the oaks need to be felled for a bell mouth when they do not cause visibility issues. This is a horrific disregard for nature. (This is Bramford to Twinstead, β€˜only’ 30km long. Imagine the destruction if Norwich to Tilbury at 180km goes ahead as proposed. We seek underground HVDC laid by cable ploughs for N2T)

Good grief, this horrendous: a large warehousing scheme which would uproot more than 10,000 trees is set to get approval. The three new warehouses in Carrington, Trafford, would destroy habitats for birds, bats, hedgehogs and amphibians. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1e2…

This needs more attention. If Taylor Wimpey think it’s acceptable to fell trees during nesting season we need to make sure no one buys their poor quality overpriced homes. Tell your friends and family to avoid these ecocidal developers.
Why is @TaylorWimpey felling mature & veteran #trees in #Newcastle during bird nesting season? #Bats roost in these #trees. Why has @NewcastleCC allowed such widespread ecological destruction of #trees, #woodlands, hedgerows & #wildlife?

Why are no news outlets reporting on the fact that this government is removing the very protections keeping these species from extinction? That should be mentioned in every headline!! Remember this when you vote in May. A major loss for Labour is the only way to save nature
