Today, Waterfront Toronto, artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, and Deputy Mayor Malik (@ausmalik) unveiled the highly anticipated Unfinished Arch at Sherbourne Common. Standing nine metres tall and cantilevering 14 metres from a single support point, this striking installation marks Lozano-Hemmer’s first permanent public artwork in Canada — and a bold new landmark on Toronto’s waterfront. Shaped to be completed through the participation of its visitors, the Arch illuminates when someone touches its truncated floating edge, bringing the work to life and symbolically “completing” it. Developed with input from Waterfront Toronto’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, the installation welcomes and engages visitors of all abilities. Read the full release to learn more: bit.ly/4wSntqu

Recently, we gathered for the Love Parade—a bike tour celebrating the legacy of landscape architect Claude Cormier. From HTO Park to Sugar Beach and beyond, Claude’s work helped shape Toronto’s most loved public spaces. Thanks to the Councillor @PaulaFletcherTO, Deputy Mayor @ausmalik, @cityoftoronto, Ontario Association of Landscape Architects, @BikeShareTO, @WaterfrontBIA, and @_CreateTO for bringing this event together.

Unfinished Arch is all about bringing people together. Coming soon to Sherbourne Common, this exciting new landmark celebrates the park as an inclusive gathering space right at the water’s edge. As the newest addition to East Bayfront’s growing public art collection, Unfinished Arch helps bring Waterfront Toronto’s vision for the neighbourhood to life, connecting people and place through shared experiences. It joins iconic works like Light Showers and LIGHTKEEPER, creating a vibrant network of destinations that animate the waterfront and reflect a thriving, connected community. While Unfinished Arch gets ready to open for public interaction, take a stroll through East Bayfront and experience the artworks already shaping this evolving neighbourhood. Video description: The text overlay reads, "Behind-the-Scenes, Unfinished Arch in Sherbourne Common, New Landmark vs A Growing Neighbourhood." The 2 images in the beginning show conctruction progress shots of Unfinished Arch, followed by night shots of Light Shower and LIGHTKEEPER.

This spring, as Toronto welcomes the world, something familiar is floating into the harbour. Global Convenience – a floating artwork by Toronto-based artists Trevor Wheatley and Cosmo Dean is coming to Harbour Square Park Basin. Part sculpture, part shared memory, the artwork reimagines the neighbourhood convenience store, set adrift on the harbour, as a space for reflection, recognition, and connection. Learn more about the artwork and the artists selected through Waterfront Toronto’s annual Floating Public Art Project in our latest blog: bit.ly/4dZbcZS
