Brilliant, and timely; when will we ever have another goalie for PM? @MarkJCarney, it’s your chance to do something remarkable. Call it the Ken Dryden Program of Goaltending Excellence, headquartered in our former goalie factory, Quebec. Free equipment is just the beginning.
Replying to @chelsealeite
The government of Canada needs to subsidize goalie equipment, this is how we find the next phenom.

IQ is a useful measure of cognitive capacity. My buddy’s 160 IQ kid is way better at pattern recognition and problem solving than my very smart non-geniuses. Academics tend to be very smart, and spend most of their time with smart people. You calibrate to your local average.
This is what makes me doubt the idea of “IQ” as a meaningful construct. I work in elite academia and honestly don’t see a lot of variation in raw intellectual horsepower, either among academics or in comparing academics to non-academics. 1/

The shot quality in this series is bonkers. Gorgeous breakaway shot over pad, under glove. Nobody is going to rock a .900 when it’s half grade As, and no easier stops to get you into the game.

My kid got fouled in soccer last week and got scored on. When he asked the official, she said if he’d gone down, the call would have been made. I understand that soccer has its own culture, and I also understand why a nation raised on hockey has a hard time accepting it.

Damnit, there’s a word on the tip of my tongue for the thing we used to use to bring ideas to life, but I can’t think of it.

Sadly, the technology simply doesn’t exist to prevent this kind of injury. Hopefully some gifted engineer who loves hockey can figure out face protection in my lifetime.
Brayden McNabb estimates he got upwards of 30 stitches. “It’s part of hockey. It’s the way it goes sometimes, and it’s unfortunate, but you still have to get through it.”

If it happens within 10 minutes like this, they call it a supernatural hat trick.
Mitch Marner. Has a natural hat trick. In the Stanley Cup final.

Offside review remains the biggest self-inflicted wound the NHL has ever cursed itself with.

Nick Suzuki is great, but Shane Hollander has done a lot more for hockey.

Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion of “Marner Mysteries: The Tale of Toronto”
Mitch Marner didn't want to elaborate on his comment about going through "dark times" earlier in his hockey career, but says he will if the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup.

Gallagher has been the soul and conscience of the Habs for a dozen years. He never learned to speak French, but he taught a generation of players how to bleed it. La sainte flanelle is better for his having worn it.
An emotional Brendan Gallagher confirms that he will be moving on from the Habs

Often, things happen in the world that are not signs of anything greater. They’re not symptoms, or trends, or evidence of some institutional failure. Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.
