After 11 years of courageously battling cancer, my wife, former State Representative Melanie Wade Goodwin, passed away yesterday evening with her children & me by her side. Now free from pain and receiving the comfort and peace she has earned, ... #ncpol (1/17)

Amen, @AnnieAndrewsMD — preach that Democratic (American) Gospel!
Dems have been looking for their message for years, and @AnnieAndrewsMD just did it (in under two minutes). Take note 📝

This is hilarious!! Be sure to listen to the whole bit.
Kyle Clark asked Colorado GOP candidate for governor Victor Marx whether voters should believe he’s lived "one of the most extraordinary lives in human history," or whether he’s "a liar and a fraud." John Oliver: “That might be the first event in history won by the moderator.”

A few days ago I posted about one of my latest acquisitions for my own Goodwin Presidential Library — specifically “George Washington’s Rules of Civility” authored by the Founding Father himself and autographed by the person who translated the book into French and back to English. Now, at the request of one of my junior high school teachers and lifelong family friend, I will share some of Washington’s Rules of Civility, starting with the first two. 1) “Every action done in company ought to be with some sign of respect to those that are present.” 2) “When in company, put not your hands to any part of the body that is not usually discovered.” Washington - with whom I share both a first name and birthday - has a significant presence in my collection along with Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, JFK, and Nixon. These books add to my expanding personal library collection of 900 autobiographies, biographies, and history books about the U.S. Presidents. Many of these curated books obtained during my youth through the present are designated as antique due to their publication dates, the oldest in my library going back to 1808. #President #Presidents #POTUS #PersonalLibrary #GeorgeWashington #Washington #FoundingFather #civility #GoodwinPresidentialLibrary

Often it helps to sing in times of trouble and worry. It’s not the blues, but this tweaked gospel song says it all … youtu.be/hAGr6J3ID3Q?si=wCHC…

Up is down, down is up. Respectfully, if he’s in “excellent health” as stated in his medical checkup exam report, then what does that make the rest of us? (1/3) abcnews.com/amp/Politics/whi…

These medical exams of his have made a joke out of the doctors and the exams themselves, a proverbial “middle finger” to the need Americans have for transparency about the health of our most powerful leader; instead, the medical reports are untrusted, non-transparent hogwash. Propaganda. As long as he has been in the White House these reports repeat impossible statistics about even such objective metrics as height and weight. Orwellian. (2/2)

What we see regularly in the news these days: Weaponization of government. Projection. Moral inversion. Incompetence. Lies. Corruption. Ethical lapses. Hyper-partisanship. Destruction of longstanding relationships with allies. Blatant discrimination against women, persons of color and faith, 1st Amendment. Rejection of true science and actual facts Ignorance of the Constitution and America’s Constitutional principles Massively growing unaffordability. … I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired. Aren’t you? Be involved. Be part of the solution. Speak up, speak out, organize your community, turn out the vote of your family/friends/neighbors and American citizens who feel the same way. Don’t sit out these troubled times. #vote

Here are two of today’s acquisitions for my own Goodwin Presidential Library: “Being Nixon: A Man Divided” — by Evan Thomas “Barack Obama: The Story” — by David Maraness “A Promised Land” — an autobiography by President Obama President Nixon — due to his lengthy public career as a twice-elected President, 2-term Vice President, and previously a U.S. Senator and Congressman, and longtime foreign policy savant even after his White House years — has a significant presence in my collection — along with Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and JFK. (He is also the first Chief Executive I corresponded with as a youth.) As for President Obama, I had the honor and privilege of meeting and knowing him personally years before he was elected President, and had the opportunity to speak with him privately and publicly on multiple political and official occasions. (It is my plan to include those anecdotes among a recounting of my many Forrest Gump-like experiences in my own autobiography one day!) Over this past weekend I found at a local vintage shop another tome for the Lincoln portion of my library: “Reelecting Lincoln: The Battle for the 1865 Presidency” by John C. Waugh. The author signed it in 1998. These books add to my expanding personal library collection of 890 autobiographies, biographies, and history books about the U.S. Presidents. Many of these curated books obtained during my youth through the present are designated as antique due to their publication dates, the oldest in my library going back to 1808. #President #Presidents #POTUS #PersonalLibrary #RichardNixon #BarackObama #Nixon #Obama #abrahamlincoln #Lincoln #AbeLincoln #ncpol #GoodwinPresidentialLibrary

Because these terms have been erroneously intertwined in recent years, here’s an enlightening analysis of the difference btwn “patriotism” and “nationalism.” In my opinion, it is highly important to know the distinct definitions. #patriotism #nationalism upworthy.com/patriotism-vs-n…

@triciacotham shared the story of a house page that had special connection to the NCGA. Jackson Goodwin, son of Wayne and Melanie Goodwin, was born while his mom served. I was @ydnc president then and knew his mom and his dad was/is a political mentor. Love full circle moments

Friends—especially those who hail from Richmond County or North Carolinians who have been personal/political supporters of mine over many years: I have a personal request today. Will “Cedric” Carr, my lifelong friend and both a fellow Hamlet native and Richmond Raider alumnus, was recently selected for the North Carolina IOPL (NC Institute of Public Leadership) Fellows Program. That leadership program — of which I’m a 1991 alumnus myself — has brought together people from across North Carolina who are interested in public service and leadership for the past 40 years. Formerly the NC Institution of Political Leadership, participation in its program is on the basis of leadership potential and commitment, without regard to age, race, ideology, or political party affiliation. The IOPL Fellows Program develops future political leaders at the municipal, county, and state levels of NC government. Each class brings together North Carolinians who represent the geographic, political, racial, cultural, and socioeconomic diversity of the state. As part of the program, each Fellow completes a small fundraising project to support the Institute and help sustain leadership programs like this one. To that end, Cedric is working to raise a very modest $700 to help, and I'm reaching out to a few people whose individual support would mean a lot to him (and me). If you'd be willing, please consider contributing a modest $15, $25, or $50 to help him. He needs to raise that amount by Wednesday May 13. Because of my belief in him and my great appreciation of his help way back with my successful legislative campaign 30 years ago this year, I have donated. I hope you’ll help this current and future North Carolina leader. (He did not ask me to post this on my social media, so he’s seeing it simultaneously with you.) Here’s the link below. Please help Cedric* today so he can reach his goal. pro.gofundme.com/fundraiser/… Thank you! #ncpol #nciopl #iopl #hamlet #hamletnc #richmondcountync #rockingham #rockinghamnc *for this fundraising project, he has proclaimed himself the NC Commissioner of BBQ (in jest)
