Have you ever thought about why our ancestors put such an emphasis on telling the truth?
This is an ancient spiritual tradition that goes back way further than Christianity.
On the surface it seems like this was just an integral part of creating a high trust society but the purpose is much deeper than that.
Every time you lie you break yourself a little. You begin to turn reality into something flexible. This eventually creates one of many mental illnesses and you lose grip on the truth yourself. You become a narrative author for yourself crafting a perfect story to serve your comforts, desires and preferences.
Look around at this strange modern narcissistic world and you will see that what is most lacking isn't information or intelligence, it is honesty.
