The work in JPR touches the life of every MD resident & has the potential to shape their prospects more intimately than any other element of state govt. Together, we have made historic strides. Take a moment to read an accounting of our progress here: willsmithformaryland.com/wp-…
No one should go hungry because they can’t afford food. That’s why I joined a coalition of attorneys general urging Congress to add language to the upcoming Farm Bill that reverses recent cuts to food assistance, such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and rolls back burdensome eligibility restrictions.
Federal cuts are hitting our communities hard. 680,000 Marylanders depend on SNAP, including nearly 270,000 children. Stricter work requirements and new rules are forcing families off the program. That’s wrong. I remain committed to protecting food security for every Marylander.

My team was honored to attend the ribbon cutting for Emma's Torch's new Silver Spring location yesterday. Congratulations to the entire Emma's Torch team on this exciting milestone. Be sure to stop by and support this incredible mission-driven organization.
Early voting is underway, and I encourage everyone who is eligible to make a plan to cast their ballot. Whether you choose to vote early, by mail, or on Election Day, participating in our democracy is one of the most important ways to make your voice heard. Every vote counts.
I was glad to join the Greater Colesville Citizens Association Annual Meeting to share highlights from the 2026 legislative session and participate in a community discussion alongside Senator Zucker, Delegate Mireku-North, and Delegate Queen. Thank you to everyone who attended!
This month, we celebrate the LGBTQIA community and recognize the contributions they make to our state every day. We have made meaningful progress, but there is more work ahead to ensure every person can live authentically and without discrimination.
Thank you to the advocates, families, and community leaders who continue to move Maryland forward. Wishing everyone a happy and meaningful Pride Month.
For decades, the remains of hundreds of Black children have rested in unmarked graves at a state-supported institution that was supposed to protect and care for them.
The creation of the Commission on the House of Reformation and Instruction for Colored Children is an important step toward uncovering the truth about what happened at the former Cheltenham institution, honoring these children with dignity, and ensuring their stories are never forgotten.

Last night, I joined community members in celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Carpe Diem Arts. They have built something truly special in Montgomery County, bringing together art, culture, and community in a way that uplifts and connects people across generations.
We also honored founder and CEO Busy Graham, who is stepping down after a decade of leadership. Her vision created and shaped Carpe Diem Arts, and she leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire this community for years to come. @arts2life
Two years ago, the M/V Dali destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge, taking six lives, disrupting the Port of Baltimore, devastating livelihoods, and sending economic shockwaves across our State. Today, Maryland has reached a $2.25 billion final settlement with the vessel’s owner and operator. Our work is not finished. We are pursuing our claims against the shipbuilder

I had a great conversation with students at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, we discussed how legislative decisions are made in Annapolis and how public health professionals can effectively advocate for policy change at the state level.
