Building off last week’s House opposition to gifting Trump a $1.5 trillion Pentagon budget, 9 senators voted against reporting the FY27 NDAA out of committee yesterday. A 🧵 of thanks to ones we know so far: x.com/WinWithoutWar/status/2…

Yesterday, the Senate Armed Services Committee cleared the next defense authorization bill. I voted no. Trump continues to threaten strikes and operations that require ground troops. Two of our pilots were shot down. The Strait remains blocked. And families cannot afford gas or groceries. This is not the time to hand a wanna-be dictator a $1.5 trillion blank check to continue abusing our military however he wants.

Gillibrand is the latest Senate Dem to announce she was among the nine to oppose advancing the NDAA. Kaine, Kelly, Duckworth, Warren, Hirono were also "no" votes.

This Pentagon budget remains too large, too permissive, and too deferential to an administration cutting basic needs while asking Congress to bankroll weapons, war, and militarization. But this markup showed something important: members can fight this bill — and some did.

Now, the ball is in the Senate’s court. There and on the House floor, Congress should build on the topline vote by opposing drawing a line in the sand: No blank check. No $1.5 trillion Pentagon budget.
