Thrilled to have written a chapter with Michelle Munroe @PCEOTDSB1 - "Anti-Oppressive Parent & Caregiver Engagement". Many thanks to @DrKenMacKinnon for leading the project and supporting us. A valuable book for education leaders at every level.

Today, we celebrate parents: the first and primary educators of their children. For #GlobalDayOfParents, we invite schools, professional educators, policymakers, and communities to ask: Are we truly engaging parents as partners in education? parentsinternational.org/par…

"My Name is an Address" says @ekuwah. Her book speaks to this in a wonderful way.
A person's name is a significant part of their identity. When you pronounce it correctly, you acknowledge and affirm their cultural and personal background. This can help students feel seen and appreciated for who they are.

Happy International Day of Families. Families are where children first learn care, trust, and hope. Supporting families means supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and future. Let’s celebrate families today, and keep strengthening the ecosystems around every child.

“Disengaged parents” only exist when educators look outward, seeing the problem as resting with families, not seeing ourselves as part of it. When we look inward at ourselves instead, we see “parents with whom we do not yet have a relationship.” Now, there are things we can do.

When schools build the capacity of parents/caregivers to support learning at home, everyone wins! 🙌👏
Our super lit coach Ms. King trained @Great_LakesPS parent volunteers on using games & activities to target first sound fluency, short vowel sounds & segmenting/blending for Tier 2 K-2 support. She worked with parents to demonstrate each game & it is amazing to watch in action.

Heartbroken doesn’t even begin to cover it. Catherine O’Hara was one of a kind. A rare light in this world and her passing hits with a weight I can’t fully put into words. She wasn’t just a legendary artist, actor and comedian. She was an ambassador for Canada in the truest sense: brilliant, fearless, deeply original, and so full of humanity. She made the world laugh, but she also made people feel seen. As an artist, she inspired me more than she’ll ever know. She set the bar for what it means to represent your country with excellence and grace and all without ever losing warmth or humility. My heart is broken for her family, her loved ones, and everyone who adored her, both here in Canada and around the world. If you’re grieving this loss, you’re not alone. We’re all holding a piece of this sadness together. Rest easy, Catherine. Thank you for everything. 🇨🇦❤️
