Nearly 800 TDSB positions are being eliminated, yet Doug Ford ‘claims’ he is actively using the 21-week break from Queen’s Park to protect jobs. This just doesn’t add up. Cuts to education positions don’t just impact class sizes, access to resources, and the safety of our schools. It also means 800 more Ontarians are out of work at a time when we are facing one of the largest increases in unemployment in the country. Life in Ontario continues to get harder for more than the 40,000 trained teachers in this province who cannot find work. Yet Doug Ford will spend the next 5 months ‘selling Ontario across the U.S. Ontario deserves better. #onpoli

The new CEO role (head of school boards without a required education background!) is meant to be hired by elected trustees. TDSB trustees have been sidelined for 11 months. Calandra's supervisor (from Metrolinx) has just hired TDSB's CEO. #onted #onpoli tdsb.on.ca/home/ctl/Details/…

Focus Ontario: Education Minister Paul Calandra may have kept trustee positions in place, but the province will take a more "active role in every single school board" (except French-language boards). Plus, why he wants to expand the classroom cell phone ban. #onpoli

Students are not automatons. They are living human beings with emotions, not government data points. Their lived experiences make education beautifully challenging. Therefore, educators must accommodate, differentiate, and maintain high expectations for learning.

If folks in Toronto think school closures are bad now, just wait a few years. The population of kids in the City is collapsing. Just like in the US, kids don't live in communities where they're priced out.
I don’t think people have fully absorbed just how big the declines in student enrollment are going to be. Eight states are projected to experience DOUBLE DIGIT declines by 2031.

Chronic absenteeism isn’t a teacher problem it’s a system problem. Teachers are there to educate, not to fix poverty, mental health struggles, family crises, or unstable housing. Yet somehow, Doug Ford and Paul Calandra are blaming teachers for all of it.

Great message from @DFISHERSDSU Communicating Daily Learning Expectations (Section 5 of The Illustrated Guide to Teacher Clarity). The learning students need to do gets translated into daily learning expectations that are communicated to students. These 3 questions guide the daily experiences of students. #teacherclarity #visiblelearning #education #teachers #schoolleaders @dylanwiliam

Making teaching methods more prescriptive reduces a teachers ability to adapt and modify lessons for the unique needs of the students in front of them. Schools are not a factory, students are not a product.

Students at low income schools are most likely to come to school hungry and get the lowest test scores. Ford is cutting special funding for low-income schools as well as 600 teachers at the TDSB. #ONpoli #OntEd thestar.com/news/gta/tdsb-to…
