"Listening is always the key" We're proud to campaign alongside children, young people and their families, like @TimothyPSadler to call for a better system of support. Tim has been sharing how the cost of travelling to treatment impacts families, and how a travel fund, announced today as part of the National Cancer Plan, will help👇
Tim's son Michael was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer aged two. He shares how worrying about money made an already difficult time even harder. Through the National Cancer Plan, we'll cover travel costs for children with cancer. @YLvsCancer

Breaking news 📢UK Government commit to a £10 million pound Fund to support children and young people with cancer with the cost of getting to treatment. This is absolutely huge news for young cancer patients and their families who spend an average of £250 per month travelling to treatment, often over many months or years. Thank you so much for standing with us to make a massive difference. 👉bit.ly/4kfx2tB

We look forward to publication of the National Cancer Plan on Wednesday, and are pleased that after years of campaigning it will include a dedicated section for children and young people - a historic first for a National Cancer Plan for England. We've been pleased to work with the Children and Young People's Cancer Taskforce to amplify the voices of children, young people and families throughout development of the plan.
📢 Wednesday is World Cancer Day and that's when we'll publish the National Cancer Plan. Marrying the very best of British science with our NHS, this plan is how we'll get cancer care from where it is today to where it needs to be. @WesStreeting explains more 👇

The North Star Cancer Collective is hosting a series of joint, open workshops to build and deepen our shared understanding of the system around children and young people with cancer, and their families. Those attending the workshop via Microsoft Teams at 11.30am -12.30pm on Thursday 22 January will be able to input into and shape the focus of the work of the North Star Cancer Collective, in particular its ambition to 'strengthen the mental health of children and young people with cancer, and their families – within and beyond treatment'. These sessions are open to all. We are particularly interested in exploring perspectives with: - Young people (aged 16 years ) and family members with direct experience of children and young people’s cancer - Community leaders, especially those representing communities who experience discrimination and oppression - Thought leaders in research, systems thinking, social justice and innovation - Practitioners (across organisations and focuses) - Clinicians To find out more and to sign up for the workshop, please visit: ow.ly/Q1X850XVBi3

We’re delighted that our film Sam’s Story has been nominated for a Smiley Charity Film Award – and now we need your help to get it to the next stage. Sam’s Story follows a child and their family as they deal with a cancer diagnosis and all the emotional and practical concerns that come with it, from long journeys to hospital and money worries during treatment to long-term effects like fatigue and anxiety. By helping people understand what young cancer patients face, the film highlights the vital role Young Lives vs Cancer plays in ensuring no young person has to face cancer alone. This is an amazing opportunity for more people to see the film and understand the unseen impact of cancer. You can help us raise awareness by voting for Sam’s Story to reach the next stage in the @SmileyCFA judging process here: smileycharityfilmawards.com/…

Today @theipaper features our voluntary vice president Rachel Woodward Carrick as part of its Christmas appeal. Rachel reveals how her dad, Bob Woodward, founded our charity after his eight-year-old son Robert was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma. Bob soon realised treatment was designed around adults, hospital units were set up for adults and the families of young cancer patients were very much an after-thought. In 1976, he founded the charity CLIC – now Young Lives vs Cancer – to improve the care and support for families facing childhood cancer. Read the full story: ow.ly/ZQR650XMxax

*Please note: Letter contains references to death* We were blown away when Young Lives vs Cancer was chosen as @theipaper Christmas campaign charity. We know exactly why this partnership is so important for children and young people with cancer but Vince, from Whitley Bay, has summed it up perfectly in this letter he sent to the newspaper. His son, Olly, sadly died 10 years ago after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Vince recalls the incredible support his family received at this time from Young Lives vs Cancer. We'd like to thank Vince for so bravely sharing his story. It's a powerful reminder of how vital our support is for children and young people with cancer and their families 💗
