Today was my last day at @ListerSchool & the hundreds of pupils I’ve formed unwavering bonds with have sent me off in an unforgettable way. 3 schl years later, I feel forever indebted to Lister for being the place where I finally believed I can have a future as a teacher with MS

The May halfterm always reminds me of the best teacher I ever had. He died 5 years ago, just a term into retirement. I remember standing in front of my students teaching a lesson that day, & later standing at his funeral facing the ultimate lesson in life. medium.com/@mightychondrion/…

A year ago my mum started chemo so yesterday after her check up I took her to the Pret where I used to buy her breakfast, but she couldn’t eat due to nausea. Just want to thank @Pret for giving it to us on the house when I told them my mum is now with me & in cancer remission.❤️
Today is the best day ever because it’s my mum’s last day at hospital. In January, she became unwell very suddenly. Soon after, she lost the ability to walk and was on daily morphine, she was eventually diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. Today she WALKS out CANCER FREE ❤️

My students would be so proud they were the first to tell me I’m an alien ❤️
So I’ve never talked about it, but my party trick is that if given any date over the past decade at least, I can easily recall which day of the week it was & what I did in detail. No mathematical calculation, just automatic memory recall. Apparently called hyperthymesia.

I fully support this. I used to have a seat and table at the end of my desk in mainstream that any pupil was allowed to choose to sit in away from the class when they needed time alone. Anytime a kid sat there I knew they needed extra care and attention & I would provide it.
“What am I not providing right now as a teacher that they need?" Natasha Chalk says teachers need to take a minute to talk to a child in lessons to understand why they are behaving in a particular way. What do you think teachers?👇 #Behaviour #Teaching #TeacherLife #SEND #teachertok #teachersoftiktok

Could be something as trivial as they fell out with someone at break time & didn’t want the class to see them crying or upset. But I used to always say to them if it’s important to them then it’s important to me. I would get their book for them & get them gently started on Do Now

On my first day with any class I always used to say to them there’s nothing wrong with emotions, but there is a problem if there’s truancy/disrupts a lesson - even if you’re angry or upset just show up to class have a quiet word with me & I guarantee I won’t make anything worse.

Does anyone remember iced ring doughnuts from Greggs - they were the best. I used to get them after Eid prayer as a tradition that started in childhood with my siblings. What happened to them @GreggsOfficial and can I have them back please 🫢

My friend Sam, who I met by chance on Green Street a few years ago does my henna for Eid every year & if anyone wants their henna done by her over the next week drop me a DM. It’s available in both black and red, she’s based in Bow & is the nicest girl you’ll ever meet xxx

My little sister is 10 today. Born on International Women’s Day and not the leap year day I feared a decade ago. Time flies. ❤️
Can you all pray that my sibling isn't born on February 29th 😭 not having my sibling used as everyone's example for "I know a kid born on.."

They said they’re tired of Somalis going to Park Royal for Eid
Transport for London is dropping a massive headache on West London by completely shutting down the A40 Westway in both directions starting at 10 PM on Friday, 20th March. This isn’t just a quick weekend job - the road will be closed 24/7 all the way until late April 2026 while they replace structural joints under the flyover. Because the A40 carries a massive 96,000 vehicles every single day, TfL has already warned that local roads are going to face “widespread chaos” and heavy gridlock. Even if you don’t drive, 33 bus routes are going to be caught in the mess.

I remember 2005. I was in primary school, listened to Black Eyed Peas Where is the Love every day, went to trafalgar sq to meet Ken Livingstone, I wore a Make Poverty History wristband with a Crazy Frog tshirt while mum drove a bright green Fiat Brava & I read Kensuke’s Kingdom.

Found an old video of me talking about working with parents. I feel like a lot of the parents who are labelled as rude or hard to work with are often just overwhelmed & failed by systems. I learnt in this convo this parent’s child had been on a CAHMS waiting list for years.

We’ve gained 37 minutes of daylight over half term, so this next half term of school will noticeably be lighter at least.

TTR didn’t exist when he was ed sec, but he still was, and teachers & pupils everywhere are still impacted by his policies today. As someone who shares many of the same views as you, I wish you’d focus on debate rather than cheap shots driven by your repeated focus on Tom & TTR.

Ramadan Mubarak to the people ✨ I’m fasting this year, it’s been a while. A lot of people who aren’t Muslim don’t know that Islam has had reasonable adjustments for over 1400 years.

Really enjoyed interviewing @michaelgove about ‘disadvantaged’ pupils today, especially as I was a disadvantaged pupil myself, and was in secondary school for part of his time as the Secretary of State for Education.
Would Michael Gove recommend someone become a teacher? x.com/i/broadcasts/1yNGabbQD…
