I first dipped Smith’s Longspur along the Old Denali Highway in 1989, and today we dipped again. Heaven knows I’m miserable now….

Dense fog in Dutch Harbor cut our visit to St Paul Island from 2 days to a frantic 24 hr dash! The seabirds however delivered admirably, with Red-legged Kittiwake and Least Auklet top of the hit list.

A few more from Sunday’s Dutch Harbor pelagic. Laysan Albatross, Northern Fulmar, Short-tailed Shearwater and Pigeon Guillemot. We’re still here, fogged in with no flights for the 2nd day!

Whiskered Auklet and Laysan Albatross were the days top targets, tho the numbers of Ancient Murrelet and Tufted Puffin were utterly breathtaking! 2/2

An early frontrunner for bird of the spring on SMI Wetland emerged this pm, a female Nightjar. Pretty bizarre given these wintery weather conditions!

Ever so pleased yesterday’s reported AGP on the Wetland had the decency to make another appearance this morning. A 2CY Grey Plover, one of those classic birding banana skins out there to trip up the unwary!

Cataloguing a true mega-patch, how the other half lives! I know an awful lot of work has gone into this, so looking forward to the final result.
