When students fall far behind in math: - mastering future content gets harder - unfinished learning snowballs - the pace req. to catch up in a year gets absurd. All of which exacerbates inequities. Path forward: A transition to personalized, competency-based learning.

My compliments to @ZachTumin and Madeleine Want on their new book, ‘Precisely,’ and its focus on the importance of precision analytics in a world increasingly dependent on an expanding, complex environment of data systems and technologies. I had the great good fortune to co-author an earlier book with Zach, ‘Collaborate or Perish in Today’s Networked World.’ Both books use real-life experiences and initiatives to guide the reader through the growing information complexities of the 21st century world we live in and share. As a practitioner of Predictive and Precision Policing, I found it to be a valuable addition to that data-driven world.

I think I would find it hard to live in a place that didn't have dozens (if not hundreds) of little businesses, each in some way expressing an idea, and at least some making no particular economic sense

Data scientists are asking questions, they're forming hypotheses, they're testing new things, they're building narratives, they're taking risks, they're telling stories. . . . It's an art and a science and a great use of human time. a16z.com/2023/05/16/5-founde…
