This is the thing I've been working on for what feels approximately like forever, but is finally being used for real in the wild. The hardest and most fun code I've ever written:
HEALTH DATA GEEKS! We have developed a portable language for electronic health record data preparation, to meet our needs (for our federated analyses across 58m patients' GP data!) but also to be terse, composable, readable, and.. constrained BUT flexible bennett.ox.ac.uk/blog/2023/0…

Among the many lessons here is the extraordinary power of small, mixed teams: developers, clinicians, academics (or all 3 in 1 like @dr_c_morton!) working closely together and learning from one another. There's no way this could have been achieved on these timescales otherwise.
In normal circumstances, obtaining permission to look at sensitive health data would take months or years. A new team has gone from idea to publication in just 42 days econ.trib.al/KmxxzLQ

I am (truly) honoured that privacy advocates @medConfidential are pleased with our work. Their legitimate concerns helped inform our new model for secure analytics. I'll explain more about how we built the platform on thread in a moment.
This is important, new, safe research infrastructure that should have existed already x.com/bengoldacre/status/125…

This is, simultaneously, the largest COVID study the world has ever produced and (probably) the smallest COVID study our team will ever produce. From pipe dream to results tables in 5 weeks. A mad, mad ride and an unbelievable privilege to be part of. Lots more to come.
OUR NEW PAPER. Factors associated with COVID-19-related hospital death in the linked electronic health records of 17 MILLION adult NHS patients. Largest study of its kind ever, anywhere. The power of UK / NHS data, realised. opensafely.org/outputs/2020/… medrxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

BING BONG important NEW PAPER from my @EBMDataLab and @openprescribing group at Oxford, with immediate narrow safety implications, and then wide strategic implications for digital health research. We have found a breach of safety guidance that is more prevalent in one EHR..

Raucous applause, please, for @octopus_energy and their fully documented API, complete with example CURL requests pre-populated with my API key: developer.octopus.energy/doc… Hard to imagine the Big Six doing this.

Also, a minuscule bug report: my meter serial number has a space in it which the example CURL command doesn't encode correctly. (@seddonym @codeinthehole and anyone else I know who works there.)

Shout out to mosh.org for letting me debug server issues from the fast lane of the M40 over a flaky mobile connection. (From the passenger seat, I should probably add.)
