Many managers view strategy as a complex subject, but at its essence it boils down to three questions: Where are we now? Where do we want to go? What is a credible path to get there? s.hbr.org/48ogDfe

Managers who know how to coach employees: - Ask questions instead of providing answers. - Support employees instead of judging them. - Facilitate development instead of dictating what needs to be done. hbr.org/2019/11/the-leader-a…

It’s the Christmas Season and your bot is in holiday mode now - well, kind of 🎅🏻💤
𝑵𝒐, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕'𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂 𝒋𝒐𝒌𝒆... 𝗚𝗣𝗧-𝟰 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 "𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱" 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 Rob Lynch described on X (Twitter) an interesting experiment on a phenomenon that Ethan Mollick labeled the "AI Winter Break Hypothesis" 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗟;𝗗𝗥: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗚𝗣𝗧 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘇𝘆, 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝘆 ⚗ OpenAI's GPT-4-turbo over the API produces (statistically significant) shorter completions when it "thinks" its December vs. when it thinks its May (as determined by the date in the system prompt). I took the same exact prompt over the API (a code completion task asking to implement a machine learning task without libraries). I created two system prompts, one that told the API it was May and another that it was December and then compared the distributions. 🔬 For the May system prompt, mean = 4298 🔬 For the December system prompt, mean = 4086 N = 477 completions in each sample from May and December t-test p < 2.28e-07 To reproduce this you can just vary the date number in the system message. Would love to see if this reproduces for others. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗴, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 🛋 We've heard all your feedback about #GPT4 getting lazier! We haven't updated the model since Nov 11th, and this certainly isn't intentional. Model behavior can be unpredictable, and we're looking into fixing it. To be clear, the idea is not that the model has somehow changed itself since Nov 11th. It's just that differences in model behavior can be subtle -- only a subset of prompts may be degraded, and it may take a long time for customers and employees to notice and fix these patterns 𝗦𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗴𝘂𝘆𝘀, 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘁 💵 So back to work - GPT-4 won't be much help for now, unless you can motivate it - Theia Vogel recently reported that ChatGPT gives longer responses if you 'tip it $200. So Even bots are tip-shaming. [no joke either...] Sources: ◾ @RobLynch99 - ChatGPT became lazy: twitter.com/RobLynch99/statu…@OpenAI - It is not a bug: x.com/ChatGPTapp/status/1733…@voooooogel - You better tip your Bot: x.com/voooooogel/status/1730… #ai #genai #generativeai #explainableai #innovation
